I have had a rattle in my primary chain reoccur again.  I was looking at the HB125 chain tensioner www.sohotbikes.com/ to replace the current auto one in my bike (07 Heritage).  I has this problem last year as well and the tensioner needed adjusting.  I am going to drop the case this week and check the compensator bolt just to be sure.

The rattle doesn't happen when cold, once the bike has warmed up it becomes intermittent but mostly at idle,  I think I can hear it when at speed but due to wind noise is hard to be sure.

If anyone is running one of these tensioners can I have some advise on their effectiveness or am I wasting my money?

Bit of a Pain Scotty not being here as I would have liked to have run it past him and get his thoughts.

Regards

AJ

I used to fit M6 chain tensioners to my older evos and my 2000 Deuce. Always worked well.

I've had no troubles with my 06/07/08's i have owned but I have heard/read of folks who have.

The stock system seems to work well as far as I've seen.

I do give my bikes a wee bit more than the occasional "blast" thru' the gears which I'm sure helps the stock adjuster "do it's thang".

I'd prolly stick with the stock setup, although opening up the primary to "tweak" the tensioner would RAPIDLY become a pain in the arse....

Ah Scotty Couldn't stay away. Thanks for that mate. I intend to drop the case tomorrow night and check the torque settings on the compensator. This happened about this time last year as well. I was wondering about the HB125 Chain Tensioned to see if it made any difference. Some of the posts in some other forums sing its praise but then they are older type fixed tensioners.

Good to have you back Scotty. Been very quiet in here since you dropped of the end of the world.

Well Dropped the case and checked the Compensator bolt and no problems. Put it all back together and see how things pan out. If it does it again I will look at changing over to the Hydraulic Tensioner. I can't find any marks where the chain has been hitting the case either so it is not that bad. Before I put the case back on should I take off the compensator and check the rotor as well?? Any ideas or tips??

Scotty thanks for that. I rode the bike into work this morning and no noise, I am away this weekend so I will see how it goes over the weekend. Depending on how things go I might look into one of those HB125's.  I got an answer back from SHOB and postage is $25.00 US. Which for a change seems to be quite acceptable.  I was on the US forum last night and a few comments were that it does a good job of stopping chain slap when idling. I had a good look at the adjuster shoe and it was not worn that much. When I dropped the fluid there was not a lot of metal on the magnetic tip on the plug either. Overall the inside looks good.

And don't you ever sleep. 4.58am this morning.... I was dead to the world at that time.....
