| check out the Amsoil Site for the results of the oil tests conducted by the company through an independant tester. Mobil 1 didnt fare too well. on the subject of oils, there is an australian company making top quality oils ,they are called Synforce, check out there website, there oils consistently test in the top 2 or 3 oils currently available in Oz. the oil was tested by Qld Uni and tested top oil in the accepted scar test. they do make a harley specific oil. been using it in my workshop for about a year now on all my harley servicing, they make all oils needed including fork oil etc, they all exceed Harley specs and all far outstrip the Harley Factory oils in the scar test. i tested the straight 50 in a shovel head here and it consistently ran 15 to 20 degrees cooler in the middle of summer, used less oil and the motor was noticably quieter. the price is usually cheaper than genuine oils,my workshop price is about 2 or 3 bucks a litre cheaper than the local HD dealer. |

Changing oils yesterday, mobil v-twin in all holes(3). Manual says 950mls in primary.Mobil v t bottle contains only 946mls written on the bottle.Measured dirty oil that was drained from primary = 1litre!! Wait for it, measured new oil from the said bottle,(with a plastic measuring jug with measurements on it) got 950mls out of the bottle ok with 20mls left over. WTF.Big think about what to do next. The plastic measuring jug is way out? But the primary oil was was changed last by the "expert" dealer. So going the experts way by coming to the conclusion of FUCK IT,and poured the other 20 mls in. Also,is there such a thing as usa litres/mls whatever? Sounds stupid but gotta ask. I get my oil from Proserpine, $93.10 for a box of 6 bottles. |

Let me guess.......after bagging Mobil oil he proceeded to tell you how you should run Harley oil.
Typical information from these guys.

| Mobil is some of the best stuff in the world, used in high performance German cars. I laugh when people say you should not use stuff other than Harley syn. Each to his own, but Mobil 1 and Amsoil synthetic oils are perfect for our air cooled V Twins. As I said each to his own. You can use whatever you like as long as you change it regularly (with filter).. |

oil is the best thing to argue about, most mechanics will tell you that you should put the correct amount of the correct spec oil from a GOOD brand, regularly. save 100 bucks over 20,000 kms and rebuild an engine in half the proper life time? good oil, and a filter regularly, i am new to harleys but, i know mobil is good stuff, so is the harley stuff to though. |

I'm a painter , all the big paint companies , claim to be the best , we never have problems with any of it and when we do you can bet your life its always the same problem with all the companies , (color ect. ) Anyway some builders, architecs , stipulate i buy a certain paint over another one , WHY,,, easy,,,,, KICKBACKS. iT AMAZING HOW THEY CAN TELL CUSTOMER A THAT THEY USE THE BEST PAINT , but change there mind, when they get another company on board cos they get a bigger kickback . Point being , its the same with oil Peter Stevens morphett vale , done a 1000 klm service on my triumph , they used motul , i had them change it at 10,000 they used Motul , its every 15000 service with triumph , at 16000 it went to peter stevens in adelaide for its major service prior to putting it in they told me they ONLY use Mobil in the triumphs . what did they use you guessed it, BELRAY go figure . Personaly i think its like paint, the better brands are pretty much a much , you just have to make sure its at THE VERY LEAST semi synphetic. But what the dealers tell you take with a pinch of salt , there loyalty to brands only goes has far has there pricing structure and PROFIT. |
