Back in the day when I was fitting braided hose, "Goodridge' to Japper after Japper,I would often get the "squishy" lever feel thereafter.Bearing in mind they all had twin front calipers.....

The best trick was: (Assuming you have already bled and bled and BLED the fucker...)

Get up as much pressure as you can pump and hold the lever in at that pressure.Have some elastic bands handy and slip them over the "half way in "lever to maintain the master cylinder pressure at that level.Leave overnight, and the next morning release the lacky bands and you have a fully firm brake lever no worries. The pressurised fluid somehow allows all the micro air bubbles to rise back up to the master cylinder (with LID ON) and out thru' the fluid. Probably helps with seating the pads out near the disc as well.

Might be worth a try,as it costs SFA and can do no harm.

Gmeikle,

This method is bloody gold tried it last night, works great, lever is a fair bit firmer than I could get it before.  Simple as, I love it!

Pretty close to what kiwidave said but i was shown years ago by a bloke-  Go to local vets and but biggest syringe they have and some clear hose.  Put on nipple at bottom and push fluid up to the resivoir.  Have not done it for years but i have done it and it works.

No worries buddy. Just ask and "old" bloke (I'm 50 shortly !!),they'll keep you right.

Back in the day when I was having a go at production 750 racing,I used to fit Goodridge braided hose to all my bikes (YOU COULD NOT GET THRU' SCRUTINEERING WITHOUT IT !!). Then I emigrate to Australia, and put my Kawasaki 750 H2B thru licensing and the tester says..."You can't have those brake hoses in Australia !!"

F*** me dead as they say here...Off I trot to find 1973 rubber hoses then I find out that "Aussie design rules are from 1974 onwards"

Hahaha says me,"GET A BIG BLACK DOG UP YA !!" An expression I picked up from Fred Gassit....

But that's another story..

Glad to be of service buddy.

I tried the syringe method just now but you really need either 2 people or a long hose.

Anyway I am going to try Greg "old bloke' method right now and see wot happens overnight.

I did the reverse bleed last time with help from the missus and it worked a treat

I would put in a vote for Greg's method also. Done that myself as well as the reverse bleed thing for a real bitch of a caliper a few years ago..... whatever works for us  is good!!!!! And yep, I have heard the syringe instead of the oil can also....but could never find a nurse in a PVC skirt  with a syringe that wanted to come into the garage with me!

Ha Ha, it helps when your wife was a phlebotomist  (google it!) in a previous life  plenty of vet size syringes around here! Just hard to clamp on to one.

Heres hoping while I sleep bubbles are escaping

Woke up today to find the overnight laccy band was a reasonable success but not enough to feel confident about a ride.

My syringe is awkward to clamp hose to so I will try the oil can method.

Hi gmeikle,

Your the only one with the correct way of bleeding brakes, the only thing I do different is by putting spacers between the disk and shoes to force the pistons in as far as possible then I pump the brakes and put a cable tie on the forced handle over night, just as you do with elastic bands.

by the way I am nearly 65 so you gat a few years to catch up with me.

good one mate, show the littlie boys how its done with no shit \errr bullshit.

Hmmmmmmmmm..................there's no ''correct'' way mate, just different methods. Some swear by one, others by another.

If it works, it works.

No right or wrong way. If you followd the method in the HD service manual you would be there all week, but they might insist it is ''correct''.....

Hi Rt, I will catch up with ya at Wozza's and at the Wednesday meeting with the boys, Dont worry about  the comments a little birdie tells me he is still sore headed about the sporster heat problem i sorted out for him.

RT remember,

As we grow older and wiser, we talk less and say more,

Or is that,

Im old enough to know the rules, and smart enough to break them

carnt remember must be dementia

See ya at the club house wednesday, hope you have a safe trim down south.

regards

snaps

Rt,  Almost forgot, here's an invite to the pics taken at bike week and all others that I have included of the club houses and other rides for your perusal.

The enhanced pic of me on the softy is the one taken by you before i did the background, you took it on the OTAA80 run earlier this year after the shoot last photo shoot of the trip.

Done this brake bleed thing many times,,,,but at WozzAs after we finished the cam exchange we decided to replace the front brake line. After all the advice given do you think I could get lever pressure no way could I get all the air out of the system.

That night I had I thought remove the caliper from the folk leg and position it so the brake line entry was at the top. Lever pressure in two minutes. I now have better advise for anyone trying this F--king brake bleed thing

it does say that in the holy grail RT to get the bleeder valve vertical etc.........................I took the MC off mine last night so that I could hold it down near the caliper in order to make it easier and the other bonus was you can get more level travel so more pressure etc which enabled increased fluid flow for them stubbon bubbles.
