| My 2012 Street Bob, with about 2500 km's, started to make a really nasty rattling noise when I started it. I thought it was from the exhaust somewhere and couldn't locate a loose bolt etc... I dropped into Harley Heaven to get it checked out... Ooops - a crack about 3 mm wide, just near the active exhaust valve, the whole way around the diameter of the pipe has appeared!

| | Has anyone seen a failure like this. It's near the weld. Would in be a stress crack or something like that. It doesn't look like a tear and the chrome is a little discoloured (blue) near the crack. | | | |

| | Should be good to see if they get you a replacement muffler within a month. My vote is 2 months and 14 days - and I'm being optimistic. | | | |

| | Have you shimmed the front engine mount?i have heard the newer bikes don't need it but I would try it.seems to me that excess vibration would be the cause.im happy to loan you the exhaust that came off my fxdb when it was new.until HH come to the party with a new pipe.If ya in Melbourne. | | | |

These things happen, but that's not say I should expect the exhaust to fail because I only payed 22k! Man you have every rite to be pissed off,not only for the failure of the exhaust but also for the piss poor service from the Dealer. How many sets of pipes would be laying around in the shop ? or even just weld it to keep you on the road. Yeah shit does happen but It doesn't matter if it's a $5,000 or a $50,000 bike you shouln't have to put up with any Failures. An aftermarket pipe would be cheaper than the original, but being warranty & the Dealers inabilatey to be able to sell non genuine parts I doubt they will go for that. Go back and push them for some sort of result to keep you on the road. Hope they sort it for you and Quickly Cheers Brett......... | | | |

| My 2010 fxd had a similar problem, similar Kms. That was 2 years ago. Shop welded it as temp measure. I decided to keep the welded pipe, even though a new one was offered. 2 years and 16000 km later it's still good. I didn't want the hassle of replacement doing the same. Many others had reported the problem at the time, clearly a design / manufacture fault that was never fixed properly. | | | |

| if you have a look at the first picture at the weld spatter on the exhaust valve housing it looks like its been welded/repaired before? shorley there quality control is better than that lol and that probabaly explains the discoluration/blueing of the pipe in that area. | | Cheers! Will | |
