Gents,
I picked up a new 06 Sporty custom a few years back.
Insurance is covered with alarm/immobiliser activated, stored in locked garage.
When I leave the bike sitting for longer than about 5 weeks I end up with a dead flat battery. Yeah, I know, I should ride it more often........ but in Tassie during winter it's not always the best weather.
It's been back to the dealer 3 times to have the electrics checked and battery replaced (under warranty) but no problems found. They suggested buying a trickle charger. My argument was that the bike, fitted with a factory alarm/immobiliser, should sit for longer than 5 weeks without a flat battery. Or, HD should be supply a charger with the bike.
It's no longer a problem 'cos the missus got sick of me bitchin' about the battery and bought me a charger.
Has anyone else had this problem? Got any thoughts or suggestions?
Smokey.
Brother you asked and answered your own question well done...
Smart Ass!
Mine looks like this one btw: www.batteriesplus.com.au/pd/1189/130/waterproof-sla-charger-4-stage-12v-15a/ And here's a small PDF file that tells you why a battery fighter is better than a normal charger: www.master-instruments.com.au/Data%20Sheets/Chargers/SLA%20Chargers/Battery%20Fighter%20Charging%20Explaination.pdf
Thanks Guys.
Bonkerz, the missus got something similar, forget the breed, it has charge & monitor modes & won't cook the battery. The dealer even sent her to the Jap shop opposition cos the same charger was $30 cheaper there.
Interesting that some dealers supply tricklers. That was my point I s'pose. It would have been easier to give me a charger and piss me off out the door rather than replace 3 batteries & spend 10 hours looking for problems. On the other hand, at least I know everythings been checked and I can't complain about the service.
Thanks HogBag.
I might check my manual too.
The only time I knew the battery was flat was when the alarm light stopped flashing.
Fuck me - I'm came in to see if I wanted to reply and found I already had...
Ha! Almost 9 years ago! Feeling old yet mate?
