FYI I was under the impression that the Harley battery (hard to believe) is a pretty good battery to buy for it. Someone can speak up if I'm wrong.

I brought the bike new just over 12 months ago and have just over 250 KM on the clock.

Dont really ride it that much, when not in use was on a trickle charger,Obviously it must not of been working, that was also fitted when purchased.

Now the battery seems to be dead, trying to charge with a battery charger but no sucsess at the moment.

Will take it back to frasers and have them test it and see what they have to say.

    Cheers Gunjack

I have problems with the Harley battery every winter, but fine the rest of the time. Usually when I work back late care of the Canberra cold. I commute every day, but it's not the longest ride, and have no capability of setting up a tender where I live. Is there anything else better that will fit a MY15 rubbermount with more than the Harley 225CCA rating? Obviously Li-Ion replacements wont be any good in this situation as they're worse in the cold.

Tried searching the US forums, but just found a squillion posts about winterising or Li-Ion.

What about a portable / flexible solar charging panel hung up nearby. It doesn't need 240v or the tender

I'm three stories underground and about 8 carparks away from the nearest body corp powerpoint unfortunately. Plus I've made it a pain in the arse to jump start the thing by getting a seat that mounts to the rear tank bolts, but not keen to swap back to the less comfortable and uglier stock style seats.

Softail's Dyna's & sportster's all run same battery. never had problems & cold not hard on battery , it is heat that shortens there life span.
been told SSB make a battery that has twice the cranking that stock HD battery has & seem like a ok replacement.

I have gone through the same thing. Each year , new battery ( I wasn't riding much ) to answer your question. Lead acid sealed battery. I just bought one from a battery place for $220. Original is about the same price I think. Cheers

I also have an 08 sportster. Because I ride a fair bit (160k) in Canberra's wet weather every one or two years I need to replace a relay. This is because in continued heavy rain water gets into where the relays plug in if the dialectic grease needs redoing. When this happens the relays short out and drain the battery. Pete from Canberra Harley said this was an issue with this model.

Sometimes they do not charge me. Other times it's only less than $20 for the stuffed relay. The grease is not expensive

Thanks for that, I'll have to book it in next week and hope it's just the relay.
