if you bought it new then get in contact with Dell... they usually have excellant warranty record
My son had a Dell laptop. Was about two months out of warranty and you guessed it..............screen started to go all crazy and then the hard drive imploded. I reckon they implant some sort of chip that tells it when the warranty is up and then goes into self destruct mode!
In my last job I was an IT Manager (no I'm not a geck and I needed to outfit our reps with laptops (85 in total). I did the whole thing & spoke with Compaq / HP, Toshiba, Dell & ASUS. I can tell you that after 3 months of researching the ins & outs of a laptops arse I can tell you that Dell were nearly at the bottom of my list except ASUS warranty system was the worst. I've had most brands over the years and would not spend a cracker on Dell (I even knocked back a free one). I don't wish to upset anyone just talking from experience
So what did you end up with at the top of the list ?
Ended up with the Compaq/HP and they have been great. Even got car chargers included for nics
