Greenies have had sway. Regulations don't allow for the right mix of metals/chemicals to chrome parts properly that lasts.

I've found a local bloke who does an excellent job - old school, destroying the planet he is.

Your right there WG. The chromer I use is getting on in age. Make it worse he has a large, religion of peace, building being built a couple of doors up, all in a heavy industry area. He knows the area will be no go especially on Friday. I asked will he move when the RoP building is finished and he said he can't. Councils will not let chromers set up new complexes, due to the chemicals. He said once a chromer shuts down, thats it. New chromer at that location cannot start up. I'm not in the business, but I don't doubt what he has to say.
    Soft...

Just noticed this thread and thought I will chip in.  At work we use certain components that need to be chromed or zinc or nickel plated.
The boss decided he was paying too much so he bought a small zinc plating kit from a mob in Newcastle and asked me to experiment with it.
It took me a couple of goes but I have got it sussed out now.  If anybody needs to get stuff chromed / zinc / nickel plated I would recommend getting one of these kits.
I think the kit was  around the $300 mark .  Its not a bad job  doing it, nice and relaxing actually.

ha ha. Never thought about that steelo.
The kit we are using is the ten litre kit and the biggest component we have plated is roughly half the size of a mobile phone.
Apparently you can buy bigger kits . I am obviously no expert but the results look pretty good.
Dont know what it will look like in 2 years time though
I reckon if youre  getting bored and looking for something to do  it could be an interesting job.

Well done BB, a great little hobby there.
Hmm, I might consider the 24 carat gold plating for my transmission cover!

This is what comes in the kit
Apparently you can have it finished in different colours but I haven't experimented with that yet

Are the raw materials used in the Plating process expensive at all ??

I think the boss said he paid around the  $300 for the kit. You get everything in the kit to do the job.
I will ask him when I see him.

Papers lodged this week with QCAT ( Queensland Civil Administrative Tribunal )  to have my new 2018  Streetbob's widespread corrosion dealt with under warranty. Papers served on GC Harley Davidson. Be interesting how the dealer and HD respond. I'll let you know the outcome .

Hearing later  this am. If I am not heard from again, it means a confidential settlement was entered into, which will mean I got  all my corrosion covered.

WOW! So in order for them to fulfill their lawful obligations under Australian Consumer laws they don't want you to mention to others that they may well be in the wrong! Australia is turning to shit. Its also interesting that a mediator would allow such a waiver of your rights be signed for simply enforcing the law against HD.
