Hi all...I want to make my own set of headers and still be able to use the slipons i have,Including the stock ones just in case i get defected.

What i want to know is,What gains or benefits will one see with equal length headers on duel pipes over the stock unequal length headers?

Also,That pipe that joins the 2 headers together,The pro's and cons.

I have a shit load more questions to ask on this subject like stepped headers and sensor placements ect.But until i get serious about fabricating them,Ill just stick to the basics for now. Also, when i get around to building them,Ill do photo's of the build.

Hi all...Thanks for the replies.I dont intend to be investing heaps of time and money into squeezing every last bit of HP from the pipes.I will be committed to length because the mufflers will be mounted onto original positions.Im thinking more of making rear pipe longer and possibly leaving front pipe as is,Or making one on similar path.

Im just wondering what gains,HP,TQ,Tuneability, topend, mid or bottom end improvements, flatspots ect.I feel there would be some very noticable gains.Maybee im just kidding myself.Just thinking out loud at this point.

Out of curiosity, what's your reason for making your own ?

The "crossover" or "balance" pipe that you mention can help with exhaust efficency at certain RPM's,
    and in a way it mimic's a 2-1 system.
A few aftermarket 2-2 systems are using what they call a "power chamber" or similar .
The "X" or "H" pipe are very popular in the car world as well.
Lots on the Web to research and read.

many many moons ago I got interested in the technical side of engine performance. I was playing drag racer and circuit stuff at the time. An old guy by the name of Frank Gardner was the brother of my land lady. One day he was visiting there and got talking about what I was trying to achieve. He said " I suggest you buy a book called.. "The scientific design of Exhaust and Intake Systems ". I did and it successfully made me aware of just how little I knew about induction and exhaust. From then on I put my time into things I could do that did make a difference that I couldn't buy and bolt on.

Exhaust design to make a real gain is as has been said very difficult and complex. You sound like you will buy some thing soon enough. Do you really need to be making header pipes now? Or can you use what you already got and wait for the $ to arrive.
