I was recently riding across Texas to LA where in Texas the limit was 80Mph,(130) and 65 Mph for trucks, granted the roads were superb....and I was consistantly passed by bloody HUGE pickup trucks,(my young bloke's got a Dodge Viper) like I was standing still......note: everyone was courteous, no road rage, everyone indicated (including me as they carry guns over there) and NO cars with dents all over the bloody things...

We are so overgoverned and overpoliced here that the difference is remarkable....their cops ARE FRENDLY....I pulled up next to a bike cop in California and asked, "are you allowed to filter through traffic over here?" to which he replied "Crazy ifn yerrr don't Aruzzie!"....dunno how he knew I was an Ozzie but

We need to look at how we run our roads here....also recently went to Brizzy and got fined in northern NSW for doin a similar speed....$690.00 later I reacon our cops are revenue raisin arseholes...don't mind bein fined when I go a bit crazy....but not when I'm cruising and not endangering anything or one, an don't give me that shit about emergencies, my CVO stops pretty quickly when required.....

Well on a sourer note........speed limits in Brisbane  CBD have been reduced to a frighteningly high 40kph today........and its because so many fuckwits are on facebook and step off the footpath and get run over!

As soon as Government’s in Australia worked out there is $$ in speeding and every accident has speed involved someway (because at least one vehicle has to be moving for an accident, right), well it’s like have unlimited pokie machines in your venue = maximum, legal, cash!

News flash, if all vehicles were speed limited, people will still die.

How about better roads, more visible policing, more driver recovers that are actually open when ppl travel ... oh no, they all cost money! Shove a speed camera there and tut tut at ppls behaviour.

And funnily both speeding fines and alcohol tax both went up on 1st July in QLD , that tenner is getting stretched further and further

Hey Pauly thanks for kicking this off again, as a great topic.
I think most of us old pricks have been travelling at speeds near and at 140 MPH, in the "olden days", with vehicles which probably were not quite right (NQR) but did the yards, and didn't kill us that are still here.
Did Adelaide to Perth in XA GT 351 worked thingo to the max, 24 hours, seemingly sitting above the road,  limit.  Anyway digress as we all have those stories.

The country town I live in atm has posted 40 KMPH speed signs in heart of town. OK can dig that, but fuck off with stupid 80 on what should be a clear area of 110 at least.
I loved speed and a good road. Road into Melbourne from Adelaide in 76, on worked motorcycle with mate on back, they had just made and laid new highway into Melb.  lots were closed off (They were  my favourite, no cops, no traffic, no animals) mate hitting me on back as he was splitting apart from the wind on his legs spreading.. 140 MPH. Loved it..
Bloody fines, parking tickets, tax man having a killing, and driving points system is fucked.
Road speeds are not conducive to surrounds,  as we all know. loopie love that, Mrs. riding.

When I ride out of my gate I am in a 130 zone but usually sit at 140 love it and the bike loves it. Even when we had the open speed limit still travelled at 140 on the Harley. But when on the jappa 200 plus, just because I could. Weather and conditions end up dictating the speed I travel.

The thing that shits me the most, is none of the speed traps are set up in dangerous areas, just where they can get the most revenue.

I got nailed by a bike cop a few weeks ago. First speeding fine in fifteen years. I speed everywhere! (Within reason). Always got my eyes looking everywhere (like all riders). I see them before they see me usually.
I came down an on ramp onto a straight, safe road, in front of a truck. There was a car in front of me doing under the limit, so I hit the gas and overtook him.
The bike pig must have been behind the truck, dumb fucking luck for me!

Got done for 119in a 100 zone. 340 fucking bucks! The cunt asked me why I was speeding, I said I had just overtaken a car doing under the limit, he said yeah, a lot of riders tend to forget to slow down after doing that. Cunt still nailed me! Fucker! Still, I’ve had a good run.

    Rant over!

    Hey CUinthe NT
reckon, was that was stiff, bugga. Next time I get done I"ll take a page from your book, and think how lucky I have been.. I speed to avoid being hit up the arse, by some inattentive bugga, I speed at times as the indicated speed limit is absolutely out of realism to the prevalent surrounding road conditions, I speed for other reasons too: One is I love speed, within a controlled environment.

I drive the NT roads heaps, out of Alice Springs, you don't feel any difference in 130 and 110. The difference is the cunts pick you up as soon as you hit the S.A border  $400 plus revenue thank you very much

I don’t get it. You know the rules. Going faster than 110 anywhere in Sa is a recipe for trouble. It’s when you are unsure whether it’s a 100 or 80 zone and think it’s a 100. :-) That’s where I came unstuck at 101. Nearly 800 bucks. Thanks for coming. Cop it and move on. Don’t blame the machine.

Yes Steelo, think many have been revenue contributors there. Last time for me Qld , and the 80 kph sign had a bloody tree in front of it. Sgt. Severe, said didn't  you see the sign, "No sir" . Well it"s there . Copped it sweat, went back after, checked said sign which was leaning over and tree in front of it. They knew and lay in wait for an interstate sucker.

I tried. I even attached a gps log off the bike (showed 100kms) to see if they would just ping me for up to 20ks over the limit. No dice. It was the 1km over that which did the damage.

1km over limit is blatant revenue raising - blind Freddie can see that. Compare any car/bike speedo to another - it will vary in accuracy. If anything, speeding law should be a percentage over.
Equipment very easily goes out of calibration - ask to see a full calibration history report of the detector.

i drove the route from Mt Isa to Adelaide in A 99 XR8 UTE great road got the ute up to 180 clicks and the limiter kicked in. still the faster you go the harder you hit, just watch out for the fucking huge wedge tail eagles and red roo's.
Same here, I was devastated when I went to Darwin the 90's and my hire car was speed limited to 180 lol
