Got all my stuff ''that i could afored at the moment'',,xmas eve big thanks to'' walka''. As you can tell from the photos, looking mounting the tank

where it sits,as i dont want it sitting to high, my question is,,is it ok to drill through the frame and weld a squash bung though the frame to

take the mounting bolts and rubber mounts? Also out of curiosity the frame is a kraftec 180,,what is it constructed of? and would the bungs

need to be of the same material? thanks for your help&replies.....Jocky

The frame is mild steel and looking good

I agree, weld new mounting points on the tank to relocate it, welding the frame being a stress point if not done right can make the parent metal around the weld brittle as well as legal ramifications.

But on another note i do like the direction your taking and I'm looking forward to seeing this project take shape.

i don't see why people build or buy rigid's then put a spring seat on  esp these small terry type of seat's  , if not mounted proper or when the front mount wears out , that it will the seat move's left & right  & feels like a flat rear tyre  & the spring without a shock , when you hit one bump it will keep on bouncing up & down up to 4 time's so by the time you hit another bump more up & down  butt with that seat angle down @ the back  with no back curve up  you are  going to have sore hands from trying not to slip back on the rear mudguard when you throttle up , esp with foward controls because you can not use you legs to pull forward  ,  front springer forks  also need a shock damper  or you will pogo from bump to bump,  esp on our roads , iv'e 1st build choppers in 1975  & judge some bike shows ,  can tell just by looking @ the pic's without a test ride ,  might save you some work in the future, esp after you painted , best build the bike test ride 1st then pull her back down then worry what colour , if you have't built bike's before you don't want to learn the hard way . good luck

thanks for your thoughts daddyracer56, yeah its my first build, yeah i will make mistakes, i do understand the probs with the seat angle but that is the look that i was after.
same with the front end,...but after all isnt it the look that makes these bikes and standard harleys what they are.also understand the practicality side of things:eg:seat.
but all that said i dont have a problem with experienced fellas like you pointing things out,so first timers like me dont make to bigga stuff up.

on the front end, personally i dont like to much the look of the shocker on the front, will see for myself how it rides in time to come and if i dont like it i will look in to installing
one.also will definately take it for a run before its painted.....jocky

I've got nothing against Ridgids. i road some Ridgid panheads. but Like daddyracer56 your got it wrong. you can have a ridgid bike that looks great & feels great. if a bike don't feel great to ride makes you hate riding. you want a bike that feels as good as it looks, to ride & enjoy it.

But if you want to do it this way go ahead. the most important par to me is the motor.

good luck with your build Jocky, what motor & gear box? & will it be kick start?

gday krash, what is it that i have got so wrong?is it the seat:eg no up turn on the seat, or is it the seat angle,in regards to the motor, just standard sportster motor & box, still saving for a donor bike
at this stage.i am not out to reinvent the wheel here just an enthusiast giving it ago....jocky

Nice looking set-up. I want to do a sportie in a hardtail myself. I want it with a twin disc front end, fork gaiters, stockish rake with a hardtail arse. One day.
