Hi there
Can anyone point me to a dealer that sells open face helmets (full helmet:I'm not after a shorty or 3/4) that don't sit on your head like an egg. I've been to local HD dealer and Peter Stevens and tried on a few and they all sit up on your head like the blunt end of a mango.
I've got a Shoei, great helmet but as I said..
Cheers
Vanity sux ........just buy one that is going to protect you ..........Who give a f... what you look like .........the Jetsons didn't care!!
I think you will find that the Eldorado is illegal as there was a Federal Court recall (in '99).....
By open face and your comments I am guessing you are referring to the 3/4 helmets... Some brands are THH; R-Jays; Shoei; HJC; KBC.... there are others but these are what I have seen lately... others like Nolan, Arai, AGV but these tend to have the visor
I picked up a RJay's Strugis Lid last week and it's a good fit , and well padded
Found a good one the other day, might have been M2M (or MrM?)brand or something, anyways i got it and its the first that actually looks half decent.
One question i have is if you have a illegal helmit and you have a spill, does insurance still cover you?
just need to find myself a helmet thats not so round.. which is a problem with most 3/4 but not full face
conmore, go and have a chat to the blokes on separation st
Anyone know where you can pick up an M2M open face here in Perth?
I believe the helmet being refered to is a M2R and I have been trying to find the perfect close to head helmet for yonks.
I have found the best is an antique one (30 yo NOS) that I bought from the US but of course it does not comply so the next best was The M2R but there is a big difference between the Med to the Large.
For me the Large swims on my head but the medium is a touch too tight and high but I'm going to get the Med anyway as I want to have an approved helmet should I be done with the antique one and need one to get home as noted on the other helmet thread the cops will likely not allow you to ride if found with a non-approved helmet.
I believe that Yamaha are the importer of the M2R so try them in Perth. I have also seen them on-line but then of course you can't try it on.
OK this post and the other one about the missing sticker episode prompted me to go and get a spare lid to use in case of getting busted with my antique helmet. It won't stop me getting busted but at least I can call the missus to bring the complied lid so I don't have to take my bike home on a trailer if the cops won't let me ride with my old helmet.
The main difference between the old helmets and the new ones is that the shell is rounder and the polystyrene and foam are MUCH thicker on the newer ones, makes sense as of course the more compactable material the more impact that will be absorbed by the helmet before transmitting to your head.
So after investigating I have found that the M2R has the least rounded shell and the thinest foam padding. They also have different sized shells for each helmet size unlike some that have 1 or 2 shell sizes and just increase the padding on the smaller sizes thus giving the smaller sizes the space helmet look.
My investigation only covers the traditional "Jet" style helmet and I did check out the M2R's with visors but they are a more modern design and have a much thicker padding and shell size so didn't suit my requirements.
This one was just bought for $79.95 which is RRP.
There just happened to be a particularly ugly bastard walking past so I nabbed him to model the lid.
It sits a bit high but will drop some when worn a bit as the padding does squash after some wearing thus I recommend buying a helmet fairly snuggly to allow for that compression down the track.
