Did a couple of hundred k's today, really happy with how its running, maybe I'll stop messing with it for awhile, the 263 cams longer legs just suits my use the gears and revs riding style better than the shorter variety, people might say horseshit but the bike feels happier to me now and I guess that's all that matters.
Hope you all got a ride in fella's, life's short, we are a long time dead.

The SSB battery is stuffed, how long ago did I put that in? A year? Load tested it dropped to 6 volts, goes back to 12.7 no load, I don't leave it on the tender, maybe I should? Bloody crap these days, they used to last for years without tenders, maybe I'm better off going back to the old 65989-97C?
    What you blokes think?
Shops are shut, no riding for me tomorrow, should of looked at it before, felt it was getting tired and ignored it cause I was busy with work.

No good to read this GM!!
Always a bugger when that happens!! I had trouble with a 450cca SSB few year back the positive terminal broke off ( first time ever for me ) But bought a new 450cca SSB so far no trouble, always keep on Battery tender when bike parked in shed. Get another one!!

It’s time GM, you need a spare. Bike that is, sell it to the chief as a project.

Krash this one was the 400cca, they didn't have the 450 when I got it but did say they had a better run out the 400's from their store, bad batch on 450's or some shit, will see on Wednesday what they have.
Benno, second bike, been thinking an FXR?

Great choice, FXR,  “A Riders Bike”, they are still out there mate, just have to dig a bit. I am thoroughly enjoying working on and riding my Evo lowrider.

The SSB 450 I bought lasted less than 12 months.
Had high hopes for it too !.
Put the 4 year old HD battery back in !
    It still measures 300cca .
    I won't buy another SSB.
Maybe ok for a stock-ish bike.

with all the 300cca to 450cca, will the alternator provide enough charge to maintain it
would an upgrade charge system be required?

no good to read, you prob have more cranking pressure?
I have very high cranking pressure on my sporty with Axtell Barrels JE flat tops, when I used the HD 300cca it was very slow to crank over, then got the SSB 450cca it spun it up & fired quick ( carb ) then as I posted had positive terminal break off. Bought another one & that was before the virus  ( but not positive how long now, but this one seems ok never let me down yet ( touch wood )

I have one of these jump start thingys in the saddlebags (can for size comparison). Never had to use it myself but it starts any bike I've tried it on, even 6cyl Falcons and 4cyl turbo diesels. You can almost put the damn thing in yer pocket.

    Cheers, Will

Have got a Lithium-Ion battery jump-starter unit, cheap insurance.
That 6.9% Mercury Hard Cider can in a saddlebag also would certainly give you a jump-start.

Must get one of them jump starter packs, be handy for work or rides away, wonder how much juice it would need to start the 5 cyl diesel in the Ranger?
Anyway ended up with another SSB, also got a new charger as my old one ays cat and mouse with the settings button, think I got it in 2005 so I guess it's had a good innings, so new battery as of 30-1-21....now I'll be able to look it up haha.
    Pics of what I got......

The SSB good!!  I know I had trouble with first one I got, but it cranked my motor over Quick, the AGM Harley battery was having a hernia trying to do that. I thought I might need a stronger starter, but bought the SSB AGM with 450cca and it spun the motor fired up quick ( I got very high cranking pressure, no decomp . then as I posted once battery positive terminal broke off, don't know how bike was running good day before got home turned off. then I get bike out a day or so after and nothing no power at all, look down and see positive terminal broke off bolt still tight all wires still hooked up but terminal not on battery. got a second one and had it for longer than first and works great. you'll be right GM!!

Those little jump starters are great. You can charge your phone and computer stuff from them as well.

I took our little jump pack to Adelaide last week, Wendys new Trike had been in the transport company's hands for 10 days, the depo guy suggested that a lot of Harleys need to jump start, must be the alarm, turned the key, dash lights flashy and faint, found a good size cable under the right cover and the bike started with no effort

Powerall XL3 is the one we have, got it from repco, $295, has a couple different connect methods and has usb ports also, comes in a case, the unit is a little bigger than I was expecting, I was thinking mobile phone or portable hard drive size, its about the size of the IBM harddrive
I recharge  (top up) 3 monthly with all my batterys (chainsaw, drills, ect)

The HD AGM not as good as they used to be, lot of people tell me trouble they have.
I found before once a bike battery goes replace, as if try to keep it & jump start, can cost you more in long run like regulator & alt. am thankful I still have original factory regulator & Alt. but also the new breed of Harley motors hard on battery's as EFI & Big motors 120cid , 145cid, still same size battery we ran on old 74cid Panheads carb.

Good Info, need bit over 11 volts just to power the ECU . If I was out on a run & had to use a jump start, I would connect a multi meter up get rev up around 2k 3k check regulator putting power back into battery, if not get new battery there & then. & new regulator.

Is that a New HD trike? As friend of mine just got a 114" HD trike for him & wife. his electric reverse been sticking on, said feels like has a brake on when go to ride off, so will take back to dealer, but they like the Trike.
