7 inch headlight conversion

So am thinking of swapping the 5.75" stock headlight of my custom to a 7" one. So a bucket from a Street Bob would be ideal with it's bottom mount. The eyebrow needs to go and I will need to tidy up the cluster of wires that feed into the stock riser.

Has anybody else done this before? Would this be a straight swap or would I need to fabricate a bracket to mount it where the current stock headlight mounts.

    Any info would be appreciated.

    Cheers!

Ok from the looks of it, eyebrow comes off, bottom mount bracket off a Street Bob, and need a headlight mounting block to clamp it on.
I'll be heading down to HogLights today and investigate further.

    Baby steps.

The 7 inch bucket would need some work to fit on the original position at the tripple tree. The original mounting bracket where the stock 5.75 inch bucket sits is tad bit wide am told. I have two options, shave the original bracket and fit the 7 inch bucket on that; or I replace the whole bracket with something similar to this .

Till then I picked up the LED unit from Hog Lights for my 5.75. They will be replaced by the 7 inch units when I get the bucket changeover done.

Parked. My model was missing the parker wire/light on the stock bucket, so couldn't wire the parker light on them. But will wire it in when I change over to 7 inches.

    Turned off closer look.

    Low beam on.

    High beam on.

The lights are a big improvement from the stock unit. I will need to adjust the throw a little bit, but for now its pretty damn good and the low beam also spreads on the sides; very handy. I don't have any street lights 80% of the way between the motorway exit and my house, and these units make a hell of a difference. The high beam is brilliant! This is my first LED headlight on a bike so I miss the yellow tint, which I guess I will get used to it. I am waiting to ride it in the rain after dark to see how well the light performs with water added between the light source and where the light hits.

Looks great - I put a Fatboy bucket on my Iron a few years back.....................never been a fan of the eyebrow set up!

Planning on ditching the current setup on my 1200s as we speak!

    Nice <img data-cke-saved-src=

My mods had to take a break for a month, have a trip coming up end of Feb, will continue after that.

The big bucket lights go really well with a drag bar, specially with the stock risers the 1200 customs have. But I am going for Bitwell Chumps to get the mini ape's comfort. They are 8 inch apes, hopefully they look good with the bigger bucket.

If you ever plan on converting your headlight to LED setup, give Hog Lights a buzz and talk to Nate.

Was soo close today but couldn't find a cup headed bolt with fine thread to go in the riser. Should be easy to get a bolt which I can use.
Pics of work in progress since am changing bars to Bitwell Chumps as well. One shot without the eyebrow, the other with. Will put the wires behind inside a sleeve if I go without the eyebrow option.

And complete. I am not a fan of the extra cable though and have to sort out the brake light being always on, (am guessing something to do with the front brake lever switch). Also, I dropped one of the screws from the throttle grip assembly....I shouldn't have been poking around in the night :| Hopefully can find it in the daylight tomorrow.

Looks good, any side on shots? Trying to get an idea how much bulkier the 7" looks from the side.
