All this talk of gearbox oil has me puzzled. The Road King only has 1 dipstick and when I quizzed the sales guy he said that was all there was to check. Is there another oil level I need to be keeping an eye on?

Hi China, the older I get, the more I dribble.
Took an M8 for a long ride through the Adelaide Hills and freeway. Many things to like and I can see why you guys bought one, but I still find it hard to enjoy counter balanced engines, guess that's why I love my old clunky CVO 110 Fat bob.

I guess all HD's will eventually be M8 based, er except for the Livewire.
Man imagine the dribble when we get a Livewire owners thread.
    I'm salivating already.

Having an opinion isn't dribble mate -- if it's informed, ie you have ridden one.
I've test ridden a M8 Street Glide Special for two hours. Based on that I know where some are coming from with the 'doesn't feel like a HD'. I had the same impression. I rated the engine -- wow -- but it didn't feel like a HD. In fact when I said that to the salesman he said that was a common piece of feedback and was partly the motivation to offer $3000 of parts with each sale, so blokes would add a cam and cans to make it more HD. That was from the salesman! Not dribble.

Now if i was looking for a tourer, I'd dare say the SG would certainly make the cut but I'd have to change a couple of mindsets.

Beyond this, I'm very interested to see what HD do to the M8 engine in a Dyna, for example. I think it maybe different somehow to give more of an 'experience'.

My apologies if already covered but what are the difference's between M8 Road King Special and standard M8 Road King .
I know about the 19 front 18 rear on Special versus 17 / 16 on Standard ... Shorter rear shocks on Special ... Stretched bags on Special ... Different seat ... Wirering through bars on 1.25 inch Special bars .

We're there many other difference's and have I got the above correct ... And would it be fair to say that even with the shorter shocks on the M8 Special it would still be a smoother ride compared to a 08 Softail .

    Tim .

Thanks guys for the feedback ... Following on the comparison vein of questions ... Has anyone had the lucky opportunity to ride the M8 Road King Special and either the Road Glide or Street Glide M8's .
Any major difference's power or handling wise .

Thanks for taking the time to reply Lofty ... one fine looking ride you have there ... i reckon this is one of the reasons Harley`s are so popular ... a couple of small changes and the bike looks totally diiferent to stock .

Like with yours , the seat , windshield removed and bars makes it a different beast alltogether , very nice .

I was thinking with the different size wheels on the Special it might drop into corners a bit different but they do have the shorter rear shock as oppossed to the Standard , that might even things up a little .

Absolutly love those Freight Train Nacelle Headlights and the Blacked out ones on the Special really caught my eye ... didn`t think it would considering how much Bling is on my 08 Softail but that`s what is so great about Harley`s and being to make them into something individual for each owner .

Next batch don`t get into Queensland until October / November i am told and they will most likely all be presold like the first lot up here ... so have to try and sell one of my current pride and joys and get my order in before they are all gone .

I hate having an itch to scratch ... knowing me i will proberbly buy one before i sell one of the others and have 3 in the Garage , Lol .

Keep the reviews coming in ... always good to read real peoples opinions ... cheers .

Screaming Eagle Torque Cams ordered, V&H Power Duals headers in the shed, Two Brothers Racing Mufflers on the bike already, SERT in the shed, Heavy Breather in the shed, and Dyno time booked.
Going top be an interesting fortnight to see how these M8's waken up.

Dyno figures in the states can't be compared to here...
figures read 15 to 20 % lower here for reasons unknown to me but there are suggestions of a few explanations ,difference in humidity between southern and northern hemispheres also fuel differences are a couple from memory.

Could you guys please post ride by exhaust sound of your m8 bikes? no idling please just ride by i wanna know what it would sound like for pedestrians when you ride pass them? Sick and tired of old farts uploading idling videos there are like literally millions of videos of idling exhausts ... i wanna see real ride by sounds :) thanks guys.
Does it sound like a real Harley? Does the 103 engine sound like a real Harley?? I have never seen a real harley before ... i didn't even know there are fake harleys and real harleys produced by harley factory.

Hey Loftybob, I noticed in your upcoming upgrades to your Roadking you mentioned putting 2 brothers racing mufflers on with the other gear - I believe you had the 4" Rineharts before- are you changing for a different sound or performance? Just curious, because I was swaying towards the 4" Rineharts for my SGS but haven't heard anything but the Screaming Eagles yet which I wasn't keen on.

Hey people - anyone here checked their transmission level? Reports on US forums of a serious issue where the transmission oil is transferring to the primary. Happens more noticeably at high rpm (>4500).
Mine is fine but I don't often take her up to those rpms. Might pay to check, requires 3/8 Allen key.

Here is one of the threads about this.....http://www.harleytechtalk.com/index.php?topic=96613.0

Picked up the Streety this morning in between rain showers. Adelaide Bike Works fitted up the Stage 2 kit ( SE Super tuner, SE8-447 torque cam with adjustable push rods, the CVO style SE Ventilator air cleaner set up, and V&H Power Duals to hook up with the Two Brothers Racing slip ons, that had been previously fitted.  The dyno chart is shown above, and puts the torque exactly in the area I'm going to use it most. The sound without the cat is finally letting the M8 sound like a Harley, and the figures show significant increases by allowing this engine to breathe properly. All mods are Harley warranted, so peace of mind goes with the performance update. I'll let you know how the butt dyno feels after a couple of decent runs.

Hi guys ... anyone up Brisbane way ... drop in on Gasoline Ally ... was there this Arvo ... { Sat 5th } ... was checking out an M8 Road Glide they have just completed with a Stage 4 Kit ... salesmen reckons they are getting near on 120 Hp ... not overly concerned how spot on he was , was more taken by the pipes , and sound ... Freedom brand , 2 into 1`s

Not sure of the model / name ... will check out Freedom`s site ... these things came out normal along to the collecter box then turned into a pretty FAT turned out end peice ... FARK , what a rumble ... people were saying they needed to hear that Harley sound , then have a listen to these things .

Loved the sound ... mixed feelings on the look but they certainly get your attention ... but as a Tourer i reckon that lovely rumble would get a bit much ... bike was in brillent Red ... they have a Demo day on next week ... am going to try and wrangle a demo on a Stock one and then a go at the Stage 4 one and see how big a difference there is .

Not sure i will be able to hang out for the next round of Road King Specials if this thing is as good as it looks , Lol .

I'm sure there is still a benefit in keeping them on Winger.
