Replacing Stator on an Evo

Hi guys, so after following the holy bible of checking the charging system that I KNOW has issues, I've come to the conclusion that my Stator has eaten a turd.
    1. Battery was fully charged
    2. Battery was charging at fast idle 13.5 volts dc
    3. Voltage did not exceed 14.8v when revving engine
    Battery is good.

    Regulator check came up good.

    Now alternator/stator.
    1. I had the recommended reading of 20-26 AC volts at 1000 rpm with roughly 40 AC @ 2000 rpm so its good
    2. Next check stator wiring. With motor off I had an alternative reading (not the 1 or I to indicate infinite resistance) of 7.6 ohms when checking stator pins to ground.

It produces the recommended AC voltage at given Rpms however is producing zero amperage = Grounded/Shorted Stator.
How difficult is a stator replacement job on a 94 Evo?

Thats very very odd. Normally if your stator is stuffed,  its due to a short (enamel breakin down etc) and it wont produce voltage.
The fact your getting a voltage reading higher than resting battery voltage (12-13v) would make me think your stator is fine.

I havent looked in a bit, but im pretty sure its a pita job, compensator nut off, but cant remember if you need to pull the inner primary.

What issue are you having with your bike?

    Cheers Perthhog,
I'm going to get to that tomorrow hopefully.. I'm going to find this little bastard of a gremlin!

On an Evo those checks you have done sort of indicate the Stator is fine.  They have 3 issues:  1 is zero voltage out, 2 is an open circuit between the two pins or three is a short from a pin to chassis.  That ohm reading is about right as well.
The slow start issue could be:
    Starter relay (not likely)
Chit battery (still likely unless its brand new)
earth lead from battery (these do go!  should be zero ohms from battery to the chassis with the battery disconnected)
earth lead under the bike (my FXR has a second earth from frame to engine case - rubber mounted engine)
Solinoid starter copper disk (these get corroded over the years and you can just pull them and turn them over)

Do many guys in here fit voltage meters to their bikes? I was reading in a post a while back where someone was advised to fit one to monitor the output of the stator.

I'm currently going through checking starter system to clear up any doubt before getting into the primary.  Burred a hex bolt trying to remove rear exhaust to get to Solenoid.. these older bikes, I swear.
JP Cycles supply a Primary drive lock tool for pretty cheap. Can anyone recommend a site to purchase a clutch pulley tool for this job?

    Thanks for your input guys!

Typical. Take an umbrella and doesn't rain.
