Which Ride?

Hi folks I come seeking knowledge. I am completely new to the world of Harley's as I have ridden Jap bikes for the last 10yrs.
My current ride is a Suzuki M109R and in the next couple of years after paying it off it's going and I will be owning my very first Harley.

Now this is where I need a little help as I'm torn between two different models, the Dyna Fatbob and the Softtail Deluxe. I love the Dyna for the twin lights front and rear, and for it's Muscle Cruiser looks, but as I'm nearly at the half century stage I love the classic look of the Softtail Deluxe.

Which ever I choose will be in the 1690 category. I do love the Softtail but don't know if it would be good at distance rides???

Any knowledge is greatly appreciated ??????.
    Thanks MuscleBob.

Welcome to the forum. Don't wait MB. Quit the Boulevard while it still has some value. Harleys are cheap. You can go into a dealer to test ride some bikes to see what you like. This discussion about which bike is best is a moot point. Each person has their own thoughts and experiences. I knew NOTHING about Harleys when I got my first, a 2003 Soft tail Deuce. It was an immediate love affair for 6 years. I still have that bike and use it locally and quick rides up in the hills I was allowed to get a tourer as well for the longer rides that many on this forum love. Good luck

Welcome to the forum, asking which bike to get is like asking someone to choose your next girlfriend. Just find a couple you like and go for a few test rides, at least with the bike there's no chance the pretty one will tell you to piss off.

Hey mate! Welcome to the Forums!
Regarding your first Harley - The softail and dyna chassis, ride and feel very different. Sitting on a softail feels completely different to, say, a fat bob.

I agree with above - Take a few for a spin!
Before I decided - I rode a Fat Bob,Street Bob, Wide Glide (all 1690) and Softail Slim S (1800). I loved riding them all! but my pick was the Softail Slim S - however I ended up buying a Wideglide because of my height (extended foot controls) and the price range i was willing to spend.
I've just ridden my mates 2010 Fatboy and I loved it! - I might look at buying a Fatboy S one day..

Moral of the story - Enjoy test riding the Harley range and you'll understand what you like and don't like - you'll also learn a heap about the various bikes!

Welcome mate and for sure get into a dealer and go for a blat on whatever tickles ya potatoes.  Keep in mind too that you can also find some great deals on used bikes, save plenty of coin, they've generally had aftermarket work already done and do NOT be afraid of the KMS on the engine.  We all treat our toys well so if ya use your noggin you'll find a bike well suited for you.  And at half the price of a new one you could buy one of each!!!!!
You're gonna love the shit out of whatever you get anyway so good luck man enjoy the whole process.

Thanks for the advice guys ??????. As you can imagine I've been pouring through a sh!tload of Youtube videos, and it really gets to me how some of the reviewers expect Harley's to be a sports bike. There's a big difference between a sports bike and a cruiser as far as I'm concerned.

Mate, find what you like then wait until the 2018 range is announced. Maybe something new that blows your mind will turn up. If not, all the 2017's etc will be 'last years stock' and price will likely be more negotiable.
Can't beat a Fat Bob for handling and goodlooks though. Cheers.

With thousands excellently priced second hand bikes, a new hd rider would be mental to buy a new bike from a dealer. Only ones that do are change of life, mid life crisis, dying, divorce, need finance. 2nd and subsequent bikes ok.
