I have to say that I'm sorry I bought my new Fatboy Lo in 2016. Instead of riding the 2012 until now. Although I would have had to drop some coin cos the missus wanted a bike! I really do like the new fatty and I'm gonna find a way to get one, but maybe after they've worked the teething probs out. Oh well, such is life.

I'm on my 4th Harley, never had a softail.
But I do like the look of that heritage softail. 114 cubic inches, traditional look.
    Yum yum yum.

So is this the official critique thread of the 2018 softail range??
8 new models, Milwaukee 8 engine etc.
No love for these? has anyone bought one and willing to review it?
Been trolling you tube for reviews.

My review  2018 Fatboy 114 bought  6 weeks ago , did 2000ks first 3 weeks
Suspension miles ahead of the old softails and marginally better than the dyna's
Brakes are good not outstanding but ok floaters front and rear
Motor very torquey pulls harder than the twin cams
Gearbox smooth and not as clunky twinkies
Cornering ok on the highway but tight twisties will see you scraping the boards pretty easily and the 240 and 160 front will see you doing the advisory speeds on the 65 and slower corners
Overal when I rode the bike home 160ks was very happy with it now happy as it is at the dealers with an issue that all the New models with the shorter front guard will have my problem.
The oil cooler is located at the front of the frame in line  with any rocks , debris and whatever the front wheel throws up at you ,
It hits the cooler , frame then rebounds and hits your guard .
The dealer says that HD Australia are looking into it but they are saying not warranty .
Maybe not but it is a design/engineering fault and could be a safety issue if this is not rectified it may lead to a major off for the rider if a rock hits the core and it starts leaking oil.
I am not a mechanic or an expert these are my observations and concerns after owning several softails and dyna's.

    Radguard has it sorted:
    https://www.radguard.com.au/products/harley-davidson-softail-range-2018-oil-cooler-guard.html

Plenty of manufacturers design liquid cooled bikes with vulnerable radiators. I’m only surprised HD so slow to see an opportunity to make more $$ selling ya what it should have included as standard!

Need to paint that screen black, its so ugly.
Lot of adventure bikes have had the same problem, they have gone to screens as well.

    ....said many a wife.

RE: guard, I’m sure it would evolve in looks but they work so if it was me I’d get one. Anything would improve the looks of the new Fat Bob.

I've read many comments and opinions recently here and facebook on the new models and it seems a 50/50 verdict on who likes the new and who doesn't.   I was planing to buy a Dyna Lowrider (absolutely love the previous model) but hate the new one.   Always been a fan of the Fatboy too.   After a few test rides I was so confused but anyway.    So late this year I decided its time to buy.   So went to demo day and rode the fatboy.   Loved it straight away.   The decision was easy in the end.    I have also read about the possible Oil Cooler damage (which I had no idea about until I joined this forum)  so placed an order last night for the radguard.   To be honest,  the previous Fatboys are awesome looking,   perhaps HD did take a bit too much off the guards and perhaps the wheels should have had holes in them still but it will be interesting to see what accessories and mods come through in the near future.   As for the Fatbob.   Not a fan.   To me,   they destroyed it.   I don't like the rear end at all.    That's just my opinion.    To me the new Fatty is a good ride,   good brakes,   good handling,  comfortable and  powerful.
