Speedo dial FLHC (again)

My speedo shat itself during one of my recent outings.
Initially thought that the speedo cable snapped - but turned out to be the dial itself - 36 years down the track - not too bad when you start to think about it though :)
So it looks like I need to spend some $ on a replacement dial or a repair of the old one - Apart from further expenses that I dont need, I wonder what the community think is the best path forward - The ratio is 2240:60 and I can get some aftermarket ones for AU $120 up...
The problem I have is that Id like to preserve the stock look on the speedo that show both mph and km (as per pic below)
Alternatively I can try to butcher the old one and reuse the dial, then carefully take the glass and rim out of the new replacement - no guarantee it would pan out - Tried it once on another speedo and fucked up completely (probably have a better chance to do it this time around due to learning from my previous mistakes :) ).

Again, the ratio on the one I have is 2240:60 (front wheel speedo cable/drive) - 1981 FLHC with mph & km reading
    OEM no: 67030-81A

The stock unit look fine (chrome is near perfect, no cracks, glass intact) so question is if its worth sending it to someone to have it repaired? If anyone know how or have connections Id be interested to know, even if this mean sending the unit off shore to get it fixed - just not sure about the cost compared to the risk of going for a after market one that I would need to tweak.

How far can you break it down, if you can see the insides you can estimate the problem and possibility of repair. From that you can work on the best action, hey it went together it must come apart.

Did a quick look and there were two versions used on your bike and they say the nippon version is a throw away ad not repairable.

Only going on a site in us, 1980 there was a change from Stewart warner to nippon seiki type, on the latter the two screws on the dial are towards the outer edge and the nippon has the screws in the middle. They were talking about a guy who repairs speedo's but they say it is impossible to find anyone who will work on the nippon. There are other possible sites so I will try different search terms.

    Search found this
    https://picclick.co.uk/Oem-Harley-Speedometer-Shovelhead-Flathead-Evo-Electra-Glide-352112232500.html
Scroll down and there is a stewart warner version not cheap but at least with it if it breaks it is repairable.

I  did see that but the werner one is at laest repairable.and the first one said was tested and working, the problem is with age and nylon gears in a lot of cases longevity will be an issue. Over so many years these ones will be in the same boat as the one you have. Scroll down and find the werner one, still bloody expensive but that one can be refurbished where the nippon one is not. Sealed units are throw away, what year is your bike exactly? Been sitting here drinking and thought I  would do a few searches and all references to that speedo said not repairable although I am not an expert and some of the guys here might have other ideas, I hope there are alternatives. I  had a bike before that had aftermarket speedo dials that could be changed out, wonder if it would be possible to get one like that to fit then pull yours apart and swap the dial out, it might take some work but you would keep the original look.

I had the speedo off my old Heritage rebuilt a couple of times.  I used Otto's Instruments at Rocklea in Brisbane.  Cost each time was $85.00.
