Understand its not legal but I am looking at eliminating front fender for my 883.
When I got my 48,, (yup got 2 bikes) the bike came with this.. in place of the front fender..  (see pic)

    So my questions are..
-What's the purposes of this other than filling in the gap?
    -is this structural?? And
-is there 883 equivalent? What is this part called and where can I find it?

    Thank you!

That's a fork brace, reduces fork flex to improve handling, specially if you like doing spirited runs around twisties.

It is a fork brace but unusual the way it's mounted

And to your second question, 883 Iron's don't have a fork brace. The front guard is the only thing connecting the two forks together between the lower triple tree and the front axle. TC

Correct, plus I suspect the mounts are different anyway as my 883 has the fender bolts as a side entry not vertical.
Why not run a close to the tyre 'hugger' guard that is hard to pick from a distance.  Running no fender will eventually be an auto fine at some point and it gives the man a reason to pull you over plus its crap in the rain! (you have to tie a bandana between the forks if you leave it off)

So thats why they tie the bandana .... easier to leave the guard on
