Hey Folks!  My names Steve, I'm a US Marine, New Yorker and have been riding since I've been walking.  About to come to visit you all on the trip of a lifetime for myself.  Flying into Sydney right before new years, picking up an E-Glide on Jan 2nd and riding about Australia and Tasmania for 29 days before flying back to the states on Feb 1.
Would love any advice, places I must see, places to stay away from, etc!  Back in the states I have a 1947 Knucklehead, 1991 FXRP, 2005 Roadking and a 2013 Sportster 48...  Traded the ex-wife in several years ago!

The only things set in stone for my trip are my flights in and out, pick up and drop off dates for the bike and my Ferry to and from Tasmania!

Wasn’t planning on heading up to Queensland...  General idea was to go from Sydney to Melbourne take the ferry down to Tasmania, then up to Coober Pedy, Alice Springs, Uluru, Devils Marbles, then back down and across to Brisbane and down to Sydney again.
Obviously with 29 days planning on taking my time and getting a little lost!  Also was planning on stopping at staying at Camp Sites most nights. Bringing a small one man tent with me.

Any suggestions on places that are a must see!?

    Welcome,

A trip across the Nullarbor to WA will stick in your mind forever, makes your Lonely Highway 50, look like a walk in the park. Enjoy your stay in OZ wherever you go.

Welcome to the forum and sounds like an awesome opportunity.
For four weeks I'd either choose north or south but not both. You'll want some down time to check out places and rest too.

Tas, then great ocean road to south Australia, up to Uluru, across to nsw and around the mid north coast and back south would do it.

Up north would be better to do in our winter time

    Hi Steve and welcome.
Sounds like you are in for a great trip.
Remember we drive on the other side of the road and can't turn left on a red light.
Will you be able to make posts to the forum while you are here?. That way folk may be able to chime in with recommendations when you are in a certain vicinity.
Starting from Sydney I would not suggest going to Melbourne the shortest way (The Hume hwy). As it is a fairly boring ride.  Going by the coastal way would be more scenic for a start.
How long have you allowed for Tasmania?.
    Cheers

Thanks for all of the advice fellas, I'm still trying to process everything.  I'm actually still deployed right now in Central America so I've pretty much looked at a Map and tried to get a general idea of what to do and where to go between that and google searches...
I will admit my Australian Geography  is CRAP!  So I'll definitely be doing some studying and research!  The goal is to actually get lost, with out killing myself of course!  So maybe I will end up in Queensland, that is the North East part right?  I read somewhere this time of year it gets really wet up and there and roads can wash out...  Its that not really the case?

My Ferry to Tasmania is on the night of the 5th of January, and then come back night of the 8th, so I get three days there...  I hope that's enough time!  Anyone suggest changing and extending it?
