Won’t start in gear

Hey guys I know it’s a weird question but I’m sure I could start my 13 streetbob in any gear as long as the clutch lever was in ??
Now it will only start in Neutral.. is it because of a faulty switch ??
But I’ve heard of a few blokes that say it’s a safety feature and I should never have been able to start it in any gear ??
Got a mate with a 14 wideglide will only start in Neutral... but got a mate with a 16 streetbob and he can start it in any gear with lever In .

I’ve had the same 14” apes and grips on for the past 2 yrs no issues it was only just the other day I went for a blat with some mates and I just hopped on pulled the clutch in while it was in gear hit start and nothing happened didn’t even try and turn over . Put it in Neutral started straight away

limp, I'm wondering why you would want to start your bike in gear?
I'm thinking not many times I've ever tried to start my Harley's in gear, think only stalled on lights once with an electric start Harley and used starter in gear. but from being a kick start only on a stroker shovel, it's just got me in habit of putting bike in neutral as a turn it off. was a bugger on the kick start if the bike stalled while idling on lights!! had to push to kerb put on side stand n kick.
why were you wanting to start yours in gear? like if your not in first gear, you will be on the clutch and gear shift any way?

long story I need to get the bike retuned for some strange reason the bike SOMETIMES coughs and farts and pops back through the air filter in 2nd gear at low rpm..

the other day I was riding and the first time ever it stalled while I was riding approx. 50-60kph .. I pulled in the clutch hit the starter wont even crank over... I tried to find Neutral while in traffic but I couldn't find it.. I rolled off to the side of the road put it in neutral and she fired right back up...

its booked in to get the tune / re map done which will fix this issue.. my mechanic put the same tune in another blokes wideglide did the same thing.. so he re mapped it and fixed the issue.. he has that map on file I just need to get the bike to him..

Some of the after market levers don't have the tag that strikes the switch, so,

if you've changed out the levers that could be it.

My '15 Wideglide wont start unless it's in neutral also, I thought it was just a pain in the arse safety feature

Yup, I pull up and park in first gear. Leave in first gear, for stability, non rolling. Jump on, pull clutch and she fires up immediately and away we go. Neutral is preferred method, but ah, I like quick getaway.
