Nice, how long till your order leaves?
    installing it yourself?

I've sent my deposit for the heads and the build, they tell me 4 weeks, hoping i can add the rest of my bits when they're ready so I can get the lot in one hit, mine is still almost brand new, at least you're replacing worn out stuff! lol

Not sure. I'm not getting stressed about it for a week or so. They've got a great rep and a small shop.

I'll be doing everything but the dyno tuning, don't have the gear for that. Can do target tuning, but I'm planning on getting the most out of it.

good luck and well done on riding it!

I'll get mine done at l a cycles in Sydney . they have all in house machining can rebuild crank & have it dynamic balanced. they have been Harley only a long time raced too.

I'll be taking my bike up to Sydney ( riding it up ) to race soon to get a base speed as is, then back to the track after the rebuild.

the old heads won't flow that good, but be interesting to see what times l a cycles can give me. and be able to ride to the track and ride home.

Hammer sold me a kit that shoud be good for over 90hp, which is my goal. The bikes making over 100 have more work done to them.

Well, less than a week and already got my tracking number. Might have it by the end of the week. Maybe a little later, due to any waiting caused by GST.

    that's great!!
only took a week for the air cleaner kit to arrive, think if parts you want in stock , they get them off to you quick.
if you need special job's done, would have to wait for the jobs to be done, unless a pre set up kit or cams, good luck with it!
do you think you would ever go to the track and test it?
I think I'll be going to the track with my stock old 03 soon and a mate with a worked 00 model is going to come. then after I get l a cycles to do mine in Sydney I'll get back to the track just look at trap speeds as that tell's me how much hp , a 120hp sporty should hit 135mph on the quarter.

Might take it to the track after, but not how it's sitting at the moment.
There was a little bit of work to get it ready, but nothing major. Just prepping the cylinders, rings and pistons. Get a few extra pieces from outside suppliers.
    Yeah, it's coming through USPS.
One problem with those tracking numbers. I tend to check them about 20 times a day.
Should have the heads by the end of the week as well, so might be able to get the bike up and running again by the end of the month. Was planning on mid Feb, but might have it earlier.

     thats great!

I have a four hour ride to the track now, but will be there for bike night soon. thats the best time to go as get heaps more pass's ( no cars blowing up oiling track ) bikes don't seem to blow up and everything runs smooth.

the way the old carb sporty is now does not have much hp as bone stock apart from slip on's. but want to see what speed's it gets too in speed traps then after rebuild will go back see what speeds that tell's me how much hp, the 60 ft time tell's you if you can ride it to full potential . I love it!

Now I'm also looking at a new exhaust for the bike as well. The cross over pipe on the current set up and nearly hits the belt guard.

This rebuild cost is going a little higher than I originally planned.

Have a look at the above link where a heap of exhausts have been reviewed and compared on the dyno. One of the least expensive exhausts is the best all round performer and the quality is also very good. Win win. I had one on a big twin and the quality and value for money was impressive.

Been through most of the sections of that site, plus I got a 10% discount on my kit. The Patriot Defender, would love one. Except, they don't make them any more, at least for the Sportster.

Also a lot of the results from their testing has made me decide to not buy certain models of exhausts. That said, if I get one that is really cheap I might change my mind. Bassani or Supertrapp. Need to get prices on both of them. I know the Bassani isn't on the tests, but I like the design of it.

Hey lucifer, did you buy heads to go with your kit?
I have to wait 4 weeks for mine to be sent, i'll order the rest once they're done, can't wait!

For the kit I'm doing Aaron advised that the SE CNC portsted heads would be perfect. Still need to head over to Canberra Harley to order them.

how much for heads? I've never priced any, and are they compleat or bare heads? what size valves?

    Krash.
Don't have the full specs for the heads. Cost is around $1400, but really depends on the dealership. They come fully assembled, so just need gaskets and pushrods (-0.050"). Valves are standard 1200 size from what I have seen, so around 1.8" IN and 1.5" EX.

Lucifer thats a good price! I might see if can get a set, as my pistons are flat tops to suit.

crop-duster thats a good price for the supertrapps! how many disc's did they come with? I'm just going to keep the stock headers and se slip on's and see what speed and times at track first. if pipes holding it back, will look at pipes.

yep, which is why i bought mine locally, for $175 it's not worth the agro if they're damaged or wrong, the saving is bugger all.  And i got mine the same day.

That's a good price though, when i shopped on line looking i couldn't find them for under a grand and that was + shipping which meant GST as well.

Mine came with 24 discs and a closed end cap, i bought the open one but took that out as well, i just run 20 discs and the alloy trim ring that hold them in.

I've bought four supertrapp exhausts from the USA and only ever had a problem with one of them (scratched heat shield) that supertrapp addressed by sending me replacement heat shield which arrived one week later.

Most aussie retailers don't stock them and have to order them in, add their margins etc. For those that do stock them and there won't be many, they're not gonna carry spare parts in the rare event of a problem. And then you'll pay shipping from there too unless you live near that retailer.

I'm all for supporting aussie businesses where possible but not when it costs me $175 (almost 20%) plus cost of oz shipping. That saving buys a fair chunk of custom dyno tuning work

They're a great pipe and worth the extra coin.

mine is solid mount so thanks for mentioning rear master, I just want bolt on. so will just run the pipes I have first. there is an Aussie made 2 into 1 that makes good power but don't still make them, but think could get some copied, they have good ground clearance too and I think could use super trap disc's with them if too loud. they were the pipe all the roaring sporty's used ( those bike's flew!! the pipes made good hp & torque an Aussie tuner made them very smart man too. we had one of the ex racers take his roaring sporty with those pipes to the track to drag race he ran 11's easy on it and was only supposed to be an 883. that had Buell thunderstorm heads and a set of cams.

OK, so now it's being held by customs. They probably want money. Hopefully they can get the request and receipt of the money quick enough. Heads should be arriving on the 2nd of Feb, so that will put a little delay into the work. Might line up with the kit from Hammer, so not a bad thing.

Still looking into different exhausts. But Supermeg is at the top of my list.
