    G'day
I'm 27, in the last 10 years my interest in Harleys has just kept growing, from needed to look when I hear that sound on the road to staring and any bike parked somewere and now obtaining my open licence, But to be honest i know nothing about them i know i'm attracted to them and the general features i like personally but i'm hungry for knowledge of not only the bikes themselveS (BIG TWINS? DYNA? FAT BOY) BUT also the culture. i know i am more attracted to what i have worked out is a the older "classic" bobbers and choppers i think but i don't have any idea what pan head and knuckle head means to the bloke who actually owns it i also know i don't like touring bikes basically i am asking for advice on where to start is there sites or even books? i want more knowledge cus the basic of it all is i I KNOW I WANT ONE i don't care how reliable or unreliable they are i just want one and want to ride one
    cheers in advance

OMG NO..... The Tourer riders are all the old farts with long grey beards and walker frames (re: Gandalf).
If cost is a concern then start with a Sporty as you can get them used for under $10K; they are light and nimble and will leave the larger harleys in the dust in a drag as the power/weight ratio is top.  I ride one every day (no car!) so opted for a rubber mount engine to reduce vibration, fuel injected for no messing about (I have an aftermarket ECU though) and a belt drive which basically lasts forever with minimal maintenance.  Look at the 1200 engine as opposed to the 883 as the majority all seem to gravitate to the larger engine for some reason (I ride the 883 and it keeps me happy and out of trouble...lol)

OK Captain Moonlight, I personally would be looking at a Sporty as Mr.Tussock has mentioned in previous post.
But dollars dictate where you are and where you want to be.
Good luck with your choice, HD"s are very addictive, but in a good way.

G'day look at the 1200 sporty great reliable first Harley, as you might grow sick of the lack of power from the 883. I had a 1200 sporty some 30yrs ago and you can't go wrong. Good luck in your choice
