So......103,000 kms old. Can you see the canvas texture coming through in the teeth?
Nothing on the opposite side. The teeth have a normal looking shape looking from the side, no irregularity.
How long does a belt last? How long is a piece of string?
    Any comments?
    How long has yours lasted?

Definetly a belt looking thing.  If its not broken now worn to chit (and that one looks fine) then keep riding.

On my '05 Electra Glide Ultra, I had the belt snap in the drive way at home on 105,000kms. It looked OK, no stone  penetration and I'd just returned from a 3,000km trip!!

I put 130,000 kms on my first one. Had a stone imbedded in it close to the near side edge for the last 70,000. Eventually started to delaminate from where the stone was and three teeth started peeling off in the fortnight before I replaced it. Never broke though.

Courious but when Harley released the 1884 Softail and belt drive you could purchase an emergency break down belt
It was only recommended for 100 Klm to get you home and did not require removing primary or wheel it was split
Just courious if this is still available ?

They are an utter DONKEY of a job to replace , you would not do it for fun !

I personally have never had one break in 22 years of riding Harleys , all Softails and Dynas

The ones I have seen break while I was out on a run with others were Ultras and Roadkings

Obviously a weight bearing difference there

In my case I'm not and never have been a "drunken burnout" kind of dude.

Drunken ! Well shit yeah and there's nothing wrong with that !

I have been present on overnighters where the odd individual , drunk of course , burnout breaks his belt !ute home for them !

The belt in the photos looks all right to me , and I've always been under the impression OEM belts are good for 100,000 MILES

That's 160,000 K's to us in Australia. To pay a shop is exxy on the labour , then "seals while you're in there" blah blah....

No chemical mag wheel cleaners or degreasers etc sprayed on the belt by chance during cleaning....?

Mick was just throwing it out there some chemicals can cause rubber/kevlar products to dry up and crack.

Perhaps the "scunted" belt shown by Tronan is/was not an OEM Harley belt ?

I have heard that aftermarket/replacement belts can and do delaminate like that photo.

In general and worldwide , OEM Harley belts ( made by some mob for them of course !) get a very good rep.

I've seen a few chain conversions here in Perth over the years , always a backward step ( in my humble opinion !)

More maintenance , more mess , just more of everything...

There are many many Harleys of all models here with 120R conversions , most all still on the OEM belts with minimal dramas.

Like I mentioned earlier , any belt breakages I have personally witnessed have been during/post "burnout" shenanigans !

I used to run fast Kawasakis since 1983 to 5 years ago , all chain bikes of course. Tsubaki "heavy duty Nickel Plated" jobs I would use on them.

And they were still "mega maintenance". One of the many joys of HD's since my first in 1995 is NO/MINIMAL maintenance !

I had 85,000 on my old dyna and the teeth on the belt were a little worse for wear than that. I had the belt, and pulleys done.
