Aftermarket pipes on milwaukee 8

Don't know if this has been talked about on here before, couldn't find any mention so here i go... I am on my 8th Harley, a new 2018 fatboy, my 4th fatboy... Now when I had my fatboy Lo I put vance and hines big shot staggereds on and it was just a bit too loud so put the quiet baffles in and it was just right... so when i bought the new 114 fatboy I put vance and  hines big shot staggereds on with quiet baffles at the start thinking the noise would be just right, how bloody wrong was I, it was way too quiet, no comparison... exactly the same pipes but so different in noise... so i took the quiet baffles out and put the normal baffles back in.. perfect... bout the same or maybe a bit quieter than the twin cam with the staggereds and quiet baffles in... Now my research has shown that because the milwaukee 8 motor has the 4 valve heads instead of 2, that with 2 pulses coming out of the milwaukee 8 exhaust per head instead of 1 pulse coming from the exhaust it makes a whole lot of quieter engine exhaust... So if anyone is thinking of setting up an aftermarket exhaust on a milwaukee with the same config as your twin cam or evo be warned it will be quieter, guarantee that... just thought i would share this...

Interesting...how different is the exhaust note with the different head design with the extra valves?
My fave exhaust note is still that of an old shovel/evo, especially with some increased compression and bigger cams.  Something about the older carbed bikes that sounded better

Have a set of 2 into 1 Freedoms Turnouts on my 17 Road Glide Special ... Stage 4 SE motor ... sounds awsome ... just sold 08 Twin Cam ... Big motor  as well , Bassini 2 into 1 pipes ... sounded great as well ... and still have 99 Springer with Freedoms 2 into1 Outlaws , real quite down low but really has a great note when the throttle  is twisted ... they all have there place i reckon ... just hope Officer plod thinks my current pipes are quite if or when i get pulled over again .

don't want a quiet set, put on the loudest set you can find

Don't want a loud set, wear ear plugs

you can have the best of both worlds

I modified some V&H Bigshots to suit my 114 M8 Breakout. First up they were too quiet but better than stock. Removed the baffles and it sounds a lot better. I have no idea what baffles were in there, quiet or standard. Still nowhere near as loud as a TC with same pipes but for $200 I think I can live with it for a while. Bike runs great. Dealer had no problems with the mods and V&H requested a video of the setup as they hadn't done one yet. Freedom pipes have just started landing in Aus so will see how they perform. Have heard issues of discolouration of the black pipes though.

Gi Day again Nelson, .... I bought my FatBoy 3 weeks ago,  I agree, I find it handles quite well. There is a lot of crap on this topic, ... I doubt that the mouths have ever sat on one?  I guess that getting of their Lambreta's and onto a FB without Trainer Wheels would be distressing?
LOL. I've done just over 1600klm had first service, .... Next: Pipes, filter, .....
I have the air suspension and I'm looking into a pressure gauge as it's a bit difficult to tell what the load setting is, Until you hit a decent bump!
Great bike,, .. such a pleasure to just get on and ride!  .... Baz

Gi Day Hilly.. Your dead right, it's certainly not anywhere near my previous bikes in terms of handling.
I knew that would be the case. However I found it's better than some of the so-called reviewers posing on youtube had claimed.
"Latte strip" LOL,  No mate, not my scene at all. I just get on it most days and just ride.
I'm more likely to pack a spinning rod and a few lures and head to some water catch a feed, ride home, eat, .. then enjoy a coffee. (Not Latte) LOL.
The Fat Boy was an emotional purchase this time round, didn't have to test a bunch of brands to compare.
T'is a bit like a Labrador pup, plump, loves her belly tickled, can and will chase a ball .. just not very fast.
Well, 7am, ... Frost ... might wait til around 10am today!  Cheers Hilly. .. Baz

Gi Day Hilly ... My fault mate I should have made my comment a bit more clear; The Mouths I was referring to were the "Whass-Up-Dude" white americans trying to talk black LOL.
They just seemed to open their mouths and waffle on with no subject matter whatsoever. They had labeled their YouTube clip "H-D FatBoy Review" !  A some could not ride very well at all, running wide on corners then blaming the Fat Boy!

This is when I joined H-D Forum knowing there would be a lot of experience posting.
I respect all comments and I also respect individual preferences and that too can drive replies.

I also liked the Slim, ... then I remembered the time I had to spend cleaning and polishing spokes on a 650 Bony I had years ago?

The Fat Bob was also on the radar, ... Just a bit too tall for me!  I'm 165cm  just like The Three Bears, the FB was just right!
Enjoy your weekend Hilly, ... I'm off for a ride, ....... Baz
