Boy those 900's were great, I couldn't stretch the finance's and had to settle for a cb750, I think the Z900 was about $400 dearer, ie $2100 ish, probably a good thing I couldn't afford one, otherwise I may not be here today,
Beautiful bike, great exhaust note, much deeper than the cb750, no wonder they are sought after today, and bring the money that they do, say an original mint Z1 is probably worth double what a similar condition Harley FLH is today, and we used to call it Jap Crap, how wrong we were,

Yeah liberator they were great bikes I bought one of the last 900s in adelaide the other photo is same bike before I sold it to buy a z1r which I still have the motor in a 900 frame

I had a 1982 Z1000 Eddie Lawson replica. It went like the blazes, especially when I took it down to the coast.  I put 88k on it in 11 months and she never missed a beat.  I do miss her. Found the pic below on google, mine was exactly the same except I had a 4-1 chrome Kerker on it originally and then a black bassani. Later on I installed Marzochi (spelling!) clip ons and dumped the front fairing.

Hopefully not too far off topic......I also had a CBX1000 now that was a beast, no fairing, and straight mx style bars.

I had a 1983 "Lawson Replica" back then. Got it from the first owner in 1984 in Scotland. 3700 miles only

His bird was up the duff and he needed a car , such is life !

Came with a Kerker 4 into 1 , I had always assumed that was the OEM fitment.

White with red and blue just like the featured bike. From memory ( hazy as !) all the UK versions were that colour.

I sold that bike after a short while, one riding season , to a good mate at the time. 2018 HE STILL HAS IT !

Summer use only , fairly common over there. Way back then he built it with 1105 Wiseco pistons blah blah etc and it ran real strong.

Faster than the other guys 1100 Suzuki Katanas ( which truth be told handled way better !)

He bingled and "restored" it several times , repainted twice at least , but a good 100% original job

It is now a mainstand garage queen , he is long time married with "weans" ( AKA kids haha..)

The only ones I have seen in Perth WA over the last 22 years were either "repros" built from Z1000J's . or were US imports ( all Lime Green of course !)

As you can see, was and still am a shit photographer, if took any photo"s at all.. This was my second out of 4 type Z900"s. good fun bike. Having had  6 Honda 750's most em worked, found they were the more "stable platform".  Wished, as we do, had them now.

As I am sure you all know , back around 2011 when the Aussie dollar was at $1.05 USD , these kind of things FLOODED into Australia for a fair old time !

Harley importer I know used to buy ratty KZ900's and KZ1000's to backfill his containers in which the Harleys were coming over to WA from LA

he would buy them privately from the guy's house , or out the back store of HD dealers , or by word of mouth.

None and I mean NONE were "nice" bikes , but all were runners. Extended forks , Apehanger bars , drag pipes , "king and Queen seats " ( hideous FFsake !)

He had no problem selling them here as projects , they flew out the door !
