    Hi guys,
    I’m new to HD, although I’ve been riding everything else for 40 years, so I’m in need of a lot of help and guidance.
    I want to upgrade my 883 which has a Stage 1 kit. Eventually I’ll go to a 1200cc big bore kit. In the meantime I’d like to up the performance by adding cams or inlet manifold which would benefit me now and after fitting the big bore kit.
    Is this possible?

    Best option would be just do it all in one hit with the engine work. Can do a stage 1 now (get a good exhaust), but after you start modifying things in the engine, do it once in a single go. Cams for a bigger motor might make the valves touch in an 883 head.
    What kind of power levels are you after anyway? Stock is 45-48hp.

    Yeah he’s right , doing it all in one hit is the cheapest option. Otherwise you will need to rebuy parts. 
    But if you can’t afford to do it all in one hit, your next biggest and cheapest power gain is a big bore kit, 1250 or 1275 will do. It will give you more power everywhere, for example, cams might give you a bit more mid-high range but you will lose bottom range.
    Have a look on the hammer performance web site, read the tech stuff , it’s educational and will help make up your mind.

    Are there any other potential upgrades that can be done for now that can carry over to the big bore kit?

    Power Vision, suspension upgrade, seat, luggage, handlebars.

    The bike has different triple clamps, handlebars, speedo, headlight, grips, mirrors, switch blocks, front and rear discs, rear shocks, seat, rear fender, RSD filter, Powercommander V, V&H short shots, forward controls, Battistini horn cover, chrome engine covers, and tonnes of other bits that I can’t remember.
    I’m looking at performance now!

    if you want performance. do the whole thing at once but, get a proven combination.
