Hard to say on just your explanation. Generally as heat increases so does pinging during load or acceleration and that is apparent straight away. Regardless if the motor is running hot or not you should always have oil pressure. Obviously the idle pressure would be considerably lower than the higher engine speed presure once the motor got hot. Drop the existing oil and check for iron fragments you may well have done the oil pump.
Hey Locadd, thanks for info, and bloody good luck. sheesh, don"t sound good.
Just wondering if when issue occured that you were unsure of, would shutting down and calling for a pickup make any difference. I always opt for the next town myself, checkout then regroup? I don"t think would make much difference myself.
It is what it is as they say, Hindsight is a wonderful thing and I could have done numerous things differently, Oh well it looks like the softail is going to get a good workout while we piece this one back together.
Give you $50 for it.......
A question Locadd,
did you work out the reason for the overheating and low oil pressure?
I wouldn't think a tired top end would do that, but I'm no mechanic.
