Wearing a rubber.

So, I recently went for a ride the bike started surging - only occasionally, about once every k it would give a chug and lurch forward - not so much fun as I was coming to stop at a corner.
So I figure, bad fuel, so I drain the tank and stick in some fresh stuff.  Next day I go to start the bike and it's obviously the battery is struggling...
So I stick it on charge and the next day I go to start up and there's a click and nothing - not even lights on the dash...  So I check the fuses (all good), and whip out the battery and I see a little black near the earth wire.  I know it was done up tight btw.
After re-seating it all and sticking a piece of elect tape over the connector to be sure, the bike starts, and rides like a dream.

So to my question - the street bobs didn't come with a rubber boot over the neg terminal (like the red one on positive) did they?
And question two, how the fuck do I make sure this wont happen again?  Do they sell the rubber boot thingys for neg terminals, or can I do something else?

Black negative terminal boots can be had from most good auto parts retailers. Different sizes available as well.
Another way is Google battery terminal cover to see what is available. Heaps of sizes and shapes there.

Mmm, some good ideas.  Since I still occasionally hook up the tender with the clamps I'm thinking some of these will work.  First I might hunt down a proper cover and might do some double sided tape on the inside of the cover.

    Ty guys, very helpful.
