Holden rodeo 2004 3.5l v6 idle issues

Hi?? guys hope someone will have some insight on a problem? i ?have with my 2004 3.5l v6 petrol rodeo (manual). I had an issue originally when my idle would drop and stall out in neutral at the lights. So i replaced my idle air control valve and the issue was fixed for a month. Then one day i stopped at an intersection and my idle surged to 3000rpm and wouldnt go down since. Ive replaced the iac again as well as the throttle position sensor. Still the same problem. Idles at 3k. The fault code intermittently  comes up as no signal to iac?. The ?connections have been tested by a mechanic and are all intact. and ive had the mechanic tell me that the iac valve is defective. So i purchased another brand new iac and installed it. This is the 3rd one i tried so i dont think the iac itself is the issue. Still idles at 3k. So as a temp fix I u?nplugged the iac and preset the plunger by hand to idle at 850.  but cold starting is a real pain as i have to keep the pedal depressed until it the engine warms up to? prevent stalling. I now have to wait up to ten mins before i can drive it each cold start. There are no vacuum leaks and im at a loss as to what else can cause this. Is there a specific programming sequence or something i missed when installing an iac? Any suggestions are appreciated cause this excercise is turning out quite expensive. Thanks guys.

Haha its the car section. If only the damn things were as easy to figure out as harleys. Mechanics havent been very helpful so desperate for any ideas at all.

Hi B. Sorry you are having these issues. Did a quick Google search and came up with this thread in a 4x4 forum. You do say you've checked the IAC but have a look anyway. Cheers and good luck.

Thanks steelo. Yeah ive looked into that one already. I thoroughly cleaned out the assemby before i replaced it the second time. The plunger of the iac gets pulled back but doesnt seem to want to push back out again to damper the airflow from the throttle body. Its been a major pain in the ass.

G'day berserker, I have the same engine in my Rodeo and had the same issue so I plugged in my scan tool on a cold start and went to "Live Data" so I could watch what happened. It would get to almost warm then revs would drop to almost stall then surge to 3000rpm. The issue was the ECT (engine coolant temperature) sensor. It would get up to temp then drop to -40c, it was faulty I got a new one and it fixed the issue. Another thing that happened to me in the last week was the TPS (throttle position sensor) was jumping around 0.4-4.1% at idle and when driving, was causing stalling and rough idle and jumping at high speed. Like you I got a new sensor, same issue, so I took off the new one and put the original back on, but before I did I noticed oil and general dirtiness on the pin that sits in the throttle body that moves it, so I got some contact cleaner and sprayed the pin and the sensor where it contacts the pin, hasn't been an issue since. I'm not an mechanic or auto-electrician I took it to them several times and they haven't been able to solve it, I think the sensor gets it's earth from the pin, anyway let me know how you get on.

P.S. the IAC will right itself once the issue is solved.
    P.P.S. a scan tool has saved me a bundle in auto-electrician fee's.

Thanks heaps for the info man. I'll have to try the ect sensor. I'll give it a go next week and I'll post the results. God i hope it works. Damned electronics haha.

    Haha.
Mate - there has always been good blokes on here that can talk more than just HD's and we are usually better off for it (myself very much included).
