I recieved the wheel from the US and now deciding which tyre to run. Getting a local company to modify the front guard, around $1200 to get one sent over from the states. I will update wih progress as it happens.

In the US they mostly use the Dunlop 207 which is mainly used as a rear for V Rods. Pirelli make a 180 55 18 bias tyre which is suitable for either front or rear. They still reckon the 207 is a better tyre though, but it needs to be run backwards due to the belts in the tyres.

how much clearance is there between the rim and the forks. In the photos it doesnt look like there is much

Nah there's bugger all room. The fender has to have cutouts done around the forks

Mate they have been doing this in the US for around 10 years now. There are only a few here in Australia at the moment.

Just a few clearance issues on the rocks but a good chance

The new Pirelli's have just arrived in Australia so I'm going to run one of them instead of the Dunlop D207. Main reason is for insurance incase something bad happens, at least this tyre is legal for the front. I also posted in the Softail section as this tyre can go straight on the front of the new Fatboy.

great work so far Steve, what was your concern re. insurance? tyre not being complied for Aus? How do you go with insurance in general doing something like this?
The piccy of the RG and SG do look cool, would like to see one in the flesh.
