Bruce it seems again that HD search the world to get the cheapest parts they can and this is what we end up with. Sorry i forgot to mention and they charge us a premium price. LOL

You may be on to something there Hilly, on the other hand guess its more volume to absorb the water? Just seems strange that this is effecting HD as much considering the volume of cars/bikes/trucks sold with ABS around the world.

Harley claim that if the ABS has a failure then normal brake function is retained, they lie! Once ABS activates the lever goes rock hard due to the solinoid in the ABS block now stuck in a closed situation. You need to come to a stop, squeeze the hard lever in once and normal brake resumes, or else switch the ignition off, hold front brake lever in while starting bike and normal brake returns. The bad thing is there is no warning at all until you go for the lever and find there is no brake

Sounds like a major safety issue.

My car has ABS and it had the full brake fluid flush about the 3 yr old mark.
Also my bike had the brake fluid flushed at Gasoline Alley when i had service done on my lap of Oz in July 2015. So better get done again.

2014 Fatbob here. Front MC replaced under warranty 18 months after purchase. Lever wouldn’t return fully after braking, took it in, was told it was a known issue and fixed without questions.

Well bike had the flush done today........tech did the flush as well as syringing fluid thru the ABS module a few times then a bleed and refill. At first the lever was hard but managed to squeeze it till normal feeling returned. Now no longer gets the hard lever on ignition and only that first squeeze after the refill has gone. Did around 250klm today with no issue, may have dodged a bullet

Jeeze, the more I read of this stuff the more satisfied I am with my old 110  Fatbob, the only onboard rider assist kit is handlebars and levers.

I did bleed the clutch and brakes recently and after 2 years it was really milky, sort of crusty too, won’t leave it that long again.

What are they charging you Paul if I can ask. I got quoted 140 kist to do the front. I have to do the front master cylinder because it is sticking a little and brake light is staying on, so I'm going to do the calipers as well.

I was told the fault was caused by not getting the services done and renewing the fluid every 2 years. I pointrd out that the bike was always serviced by  a HD dealer in Brisbane before I purchased it, 1 1/2 years ago, so is that a warranty claim then. The silence was deafening.
It actually appears that the 2 yearly gluid change is to stop the ABS modules failing, brought in after a spate of failures, as you mentioned.
Good luck and keep up posted.
    Cheers Ken

Cheers Ken been quoted $120 for the flush, and yes HD are claiming that the ABS unit will gum up if the fluid is not replaced every 2yrs

Ken bill came in at $113

Thanks for the update Paul, happy to hear you had a win too. I pick up the parts on monday to do my MC and calipers. As I don't have any warranty anymore I'm gonna do it myself, as long as I can bleed the ABS unit ic it gets air in it all will be well. Enjoy Paul.i

Dont forget Ken you or i dont have the Harley tool to flush the ABS module we are simply bleeding air/ old fluid from the MC to the caliper. Its in the ABS module that fucks up.

Yep I know Paul,  but as I am doing the MC and calipers I think I will end up with air in the ABS unit, so will probably have to take it in if I can't bleed it. Have to see how it goes.

    Hi All,
Just reading this post and it now has me thinking about my bike 2016 Low Rider. Its only got 4500kms on it but obviously this is a time related issue abd not kms?

I didnt think it would be so sensitive. Its really should be sealed unlike a car that has a screw on vented plastic cap.

    Regards

Leachy its a time related thing. You may be mistaken regarding your car ABS and a screw cap. We are talking the large alloy ABS module that has all the brake lines going into it, that's the non serviceable part that fails
