my battery is on it's last legs.
holds ok charge, but when it cranks over drops to about 5.5 volts.
which barely cranks over my CVO Springer.
got about 5 years out of the HD 65989-97C.
thinking of maybe a SSB PowerSport RTX20L-BS.
both have 1 year warranty, HD about 315 CCA, SSB about 400 CCA.
    price....HD  $200, SSB   $135
    thoughts, pro's con's ????

I've always used genuine HD AGM, but have seen a few people be let down by them in past few years. a good friend, went from Genuine HD to that same SSB you quoted and no problems 1.5 year on. have seen others give the SSB a good rap too.

normally buy HD batteries, did buy a DEKA for the Night Rod.
it only lasted about 2 years, wasn't fckn happy.

Have tried DEKA's over the years , seemed OK.

Trouble is the genuine HD batteries ( made by DEKA anyways !) work out cheaper from the HD dealer , strange but true !

Have had mates try Odyssey and other "exotics" over the years and always they come back to "genuine".

With battery Fighter junior tenders I have had "Genuine" batteries last 7 years on a few occasions before now.

Will be interesting to see how these "$88" SSB batteries pan out

Been a fan off ssb battery’s for a few years now  more cca than a HD Oem one  shit
All over deka gray shit I’ll never buy one of them again  and  as I’ve said in
The past  if you remove the stickers off the ssb you would swear it’s a HD one
Look exactly like each other ot than the HD one has the bar n shield molded
In the case    Ive only ever used the gel Matt type hvt1 I think  which is 420cca
No one can tell you what the HD ones are exactly but there apparently around
315cca  and as hilly said bugged if I would ever use a wet type battery in
A harley  with a oil tank heat spewing acid all over chrome and paint destroys
It in no time even with a vent hose going unde4 the Bike  if can afford to do
Engine upgrades don’t be a tight arse on a cheaper battery that’s my 2c
Ssb 1st than  Oem HD 2nd in my bikes. Deka gray door stop lol

I will be trying an SSB next time (HVT-1 $120 delivered ).
I usually get 2 years out of the HD replacement battery, but they struggle before then.
Not as good as they once were.
When are these high tech Lithium's gong to be sorted out for reliability , and sell for a decent price ?

I use SSB Drycell (V-SPEC)  in my 110CI. Due to frame mods with lowered seat height I need the VTX15L-BS (175L x 87W x 130mm High) which specifies 340CCA. Even after 2 weeks cold soak in VIC winter it still cranks strong.

    surprise fckn surprise....
fully charged the battery then fitted to bike.
after 2 days turned on the ignition, lights were low, tried to crank the bike.
    nothing.
put the meter on, 12.5, but turn on the ignition drops to 9.5.

I don’t know anything about SSB batts or batts in general really but given your experience I’m wondering what type of charger you used. I killed a friends batt after he lent me his BMW GS by using an old fashioned manual charger, bought a new one and was told to use a Cteck or other smart charger on the AGM setting or it will cook the cells.

Good to hear, was just checking out batteries for my springer which has the rtx20l-bs in it at the moment.

But the htv1 looks to be the better option.

Fitted the HVT-1 SSB a few weeks back.
Spins the 120 over OK with both ACR's engaged, as it should.
    Time will tell I guess.
The old Genuine battery was 3 years old, and would probably still be ok for a stock motor.
Interesting thing, the new SSB holds a resting voltage over 13v.

    I got the HVT-1 midweek
Did a bit of reading up on it and it reads pretty good.
    Impressed so far

Hilly, 13.7 volts is around the correct float charging voltage for standby use.
Below is a chart for the batteries state of charge after resting for at least an hour ( all depends on Battery chemistry of course )

Sorry to hear that mate BUT seen it all before..

I work on Harleys a fair bit and will only fit a Genuine HD battery for myself ( OR OTHERS) now !

Trouble is the nearest Genuine HD dealership is now over 40K's from me since Frasers left town FFsake...

Even my electronics tech riding mate has given Odyssey the flick and is now a "Genuine HD" convert again haha..
