2018 All-Stars Lap Around The Block update...
Left Whyalla 2OCT for a fast run northwards through Port Augusta at the top of the Spencer Gulf and then south to Auburn in the Clare Valley. The short but beautifully sinuous road through Horricks Pass across the Flinders Ranges was great fun, then on to Peterborough to the fabulous motorbike museum. Had our first wet weather in 36 days (more mist than drizzle though) riding through the Adelaide Hills on the 3rd, but it didn't reduce the beauty of the many historic towns along the way. Rode alongside the wetlands of the Coorong national park at the mouth of the Murray River, which seemed to be lush and vibrant, on the way to Mt Gambier. Crossed in to Victoria on the morning of the 4th and, surprise!.... the weather closed in, the temperature dropped and the winds increased, the drivers got crazy and the roadworks increased. The ride along the wonderful Great Ocean Road to Apollo Bay was great though, and the various lookouts along the way were made all the more dramatic with a backdrop of big seas and waves crashing against the cliffs.
Decision time at Port Augusta. Maybe we turn left and go around again?

    Peterborough motorcycle museum is terrific

Hello Victoria (and rain, wind, crazy drivers and roadworks)

    Penultimate update....
The second half of the Great Ocean Road was a bit of a mess of much needed road works and cliff stabilisation but because of an early departure there was little traffic and the run to Queenscliffe was delightful. Lovely ferry trip across to Sorrento. Continued to follow the coastal route on various roads through Kooweerup, Foster and Yarrum for our final overnight in Traralgon. Beautiful sunshine heralded our final day of the now world famous 2018 All-Stars Lap Around The Block.

The sun gods were shining down on us on the  Great Ocean Road

The GOR gateway Torquay. Our mate Errol rejoined us for the last 2 days' riding

Well, the (in)famous 2018 All-Stars Lap Around The Block is done and dusted. 41 days and some 16,400 kms after starting,  we pulled into our agreed finishing spot in Canberra to be greeted by family and friends (including my newest grandson who was born while I was away).
It was a fantastic trip, shared with really great friends for whom it was a long held dream that we fulfilled together. Being back amongst family though reminds you that for all the great things we saw and experienced, it's being with friends and family where you truly are 'living the dream'.

Thanks to the many, many people who have followed us here, on FB, Instagram or elsewhere, sent in encouraging comments and generally 'rode along with us'. Glad you liked it. And thanks again to Rojo Customs of Canberra for printing up our very cool, exclusive ride shirts.

(Maybe in a few years we should do it in a clockwise direction to 'unwind').

    Hello ACT

This is where you really are 'living the dream'

Cheers Matt great story and read. I lost my lifelong ride mate 12mths ago and we had done most of Australia, USA 3 times and Canada as well as various short runs in Vietnam and Indonesia so really get the point of doing it with your mates while we can.

Makes you realize what people have to deal with as mentioned by PaulyBronco

That Matt should be the winning quote of 2018!  After loosing my mate i got the biggest smack to the head about doing things rather than wanting to do things.
