    That is interesting, HD down 20% on last year.  Is it implied that a lot of those buyers stuck to a v-twin but went to an Indian instead for better value?

    Yes good pickup, but there is no real proof that the sales did go to Indian.

    Even if Indian sales did benefit from some of the decline in HD sales it's nowhere near enough to account for the whole of the decline.
    But what's more interesting is that sales of most makes (with a couple of exceptions) are down and that the market as a whole is down.

    I think we're seeing a demographic change in the way people view and buy motorbikes and we're looking forward to at a long term gradual decline in sales.

    I think it's indicative of economic conditions. 
    Realestate has dropped too. Sales of toys like new motorcycles must also drop. 
    Harley and ducati, being among the most expensive toys, are impacted the most.

    Facts are  Harley are a very expensive toy , and if you look around you can pick up a very good low mileage one cheap  , bikes are just losing there appeal to the younger ones
