FXDR - any opinions yet?

    I'm a 35 year Jappa veteran that's been on a Breakout now for just over a year.

    I was drawn to the FOB keyless ignition, fat tyre, drag bars, TBW, cruise control, easily customisable bike.

    I'm not selling, but have had a good hands-on look at the new FXDR and I reckon it's shit hot!

    I never buy anything with the first major motor development. Let the other 100,000 buyers work out the bugs LOL!

    I like the LED headlight, inverted forks (although they really have no adjustments), preload adjust on rear suspension (actual dampening adjustments would be nice), alloy swingarm, and slightly lighter wheels. The plastic rear bodywork doesn't upset me.


    I may put a couple hundred demo kilometres on one this weekend. If I do, I'll come back with some legit feedback.

    Never liked the Diavel. Don't like Powercruiser style bikes in general. I like the V-Max, still wouldn't own one.

    I like the FXDR from the seat and oil tank forward. It's arse looks like Kim Kardashian's.

    I have, for about 60km's of mixed twisty straight roads, I wasn't impressed at all.

    This one (the Ducati) is really growing on me. Didn't like the previous models look (engine and handling were very good) but this one has the looks as well.

    I saw the obvious resemblance to the Daivel as well. I actually like that styling.


    As for Power Cruiser, I also have a GenII V-max in the shed. No Harley will ever compare to the power of that thing, and yeah, it has looks that only a mother could love LOL

    The one I might demo this weekend already has a cam in it, plus a Bassani 2-1 pipe and some can tune.

    It should at least sound the part :)

    I like the Duc, but the new FXDR is the machine that I have a problem with.  Its not a harley nor is it a honda so it sort of sits in a no mans land as far as I am concerned.

    I Agree with tussuck, looks to me like, Harley now know they can't keep selling there bikes , that really need Slip on muff's & air cleaner upgrade also a full day on a dyno with an operator that knows how to tune & make a full custom map. as those day's just about if not over. they now know if they want to offer a performance bike , they have to build one that passes the new immission standards. so you get that big ugly ol muffler ( probably made by Suzuki ) and that big ugly plastic intake. but I know it won't perform that well & be too heavy & cumbersome to handle or stop quick. so would not waist time test riding one. but on the other hand that is just me, I'm sure there will be people that enjoy riding one.

    I took the one from Perth Harley for a ride the other day. I really liked the look so had to see it in person. They look fantastic. It pissed along. I've had 3 Harley's to date, Night Train, Fatboy Lo, now a 2016 Fatbob and between the Lo and Fatbob a 2013 ZX14 Kawasaki. Plus moto cross bikes & blah blah blah years ago.. This thing was great, but I'm 6'4 and throwing it into corners with your feet forward is a bit hairy being tall. The sports bikes have your feet at the rear which is a lot more natural. It may suit the shorties more? It was a fun ride for sure but not for me, I was a little squashed up.. But it screamed alone, I rode the Diavil before buying the ZX14 and that was way too sqishy for me compared to this FXDR. So yeah you'd have to try it yourself to have a true understanding of the bike and ride.  Enjoy ??????

    My test ride got washed out today. 10-20mm coming down :(

    I know there are die-hards that reckon the V-rod is not a real Harley.

    Hell, I know die-hards that reckon a softail aint a real Harley LOL!

    I know the new '18 Breakouts caught absolute Hell, but I see blokes buyin and ridin them :)


    I suspect the FXDR will be much the same. I'll wait 5 years till there's a bargain to be had somewhere, and the mods are all sorted :)

    I spoke to the parts man in the dealer as he has an earlier model but with the same engine.  He recons they are chit out of the box and I have to agree when I look at the HP specs considering its a 114" engine.  He said you need to add another $1,500 to $2,000 on a stage 1,000,000 setup and then they start to get up and go.  Personally I would eb really fucked off to spend $35k on a bike touted as the new 'screamer' only to find it wimpers until I have sink another couple of grand into it.   
    I would even start looking at Ducs, Trumps or Indian, but thats my one eyed Evo view of the world. (and I concur with what someone said about V-Rods - they really are just a compaion bike to a 750 Shadow...lol)

    This dealer had me come install a HealTech quickshifter on their demo bike a week before they previewed to the public :)

    They get my business LOL


    They also know I'm making payments on two nearly new Breakouts :)


    Everybody bags on HD dealers, but we're in regional QLD and the dealer here is tops - a real mates atmosphere at the shop, and they bring their arses out to the drag strip now and then as well. No funny business either if you bring something in for warranty work.

    I picked my one up last week. Swapped from fat boy s 117 .
    I was looking for something in Harley’s softail range.
    The only thing that appealed somewhat was the fatbob but I just dont like the look.( to each his peach)
    Ordered my FXDR as soon as I found out about it.
    I rode it through to Gemsbrook and surrounds and found myself laughing loud every time I went through some twisties.
    It is quite quick for a Harley and it handles and brakes well. Cornering clearance is surprisingly good and I haven’t ground anything yet.
    Ergonomics are average but not as bad as others have written IMO. I will howeve try mid mounts or longer clip ons once they become available.
    It’s not the fastest best handling or even best looking bike although I love the looks, but I can’t wait to ride it again tomorrow weather permitting.

    Regardless of what anyone else thinks, your final words sum it up “I can’t wait to ride it again tomorrow”

    I've owned a diavel.. And taken a fxdr for a good hours ride, if they are trying to compete with the diavel.. They need to sack everyone involved in the fxdr.
    Diavel is the most complete bike I have ever owned and absolutely leaves the fxdr and any vrod for dead. 

    But it wasn't a harley so I sold it after a year..
