Hi,  I have found an old 1975 FLH and I believe most of it is original but I want to find out how the bike was when it built.  Does anyone know how I could find out the history and original speck of a bike?
I am planning a full restoration of this bike and want to take it back to what it was originally.

Hi, I was looking at buying one in the UK in 1975 and have scanned the brochure.
As you can see, even back then it was expensive.
I bought a new Bonneville 750, kitted out with panniers etc for 600 pounds, incl VAT.
    Hope it helps, Cheers

    and off the net

Congratulations on you score, the '75flh in its original condition is a thing of beauty,

There were several colour options, there were the basics, birch white and vivid black, then the colours were sunburst burgundy, sunburst bronze, sunburst blue, sunburst orange,
You could get an optional large fairing known as the liberator,
As you already have the brochure, here's a few pics I've scrounged off of the net,

this one is sunburst blue, the bike is minus it's batwing, plus it's seat is not original for this year, this seat is known as a comfort flex and didn't appear until '77?, otherwise this is a near stock original bike,

this beauty is sunburst burgundy, this one has a few options, the front disc caliper has a nice chrome cover, the oil tank is concealed behind a cover, there is an air scoop which is supposed to direct more air to the rear cylinder, this bike is gorgeous,

look at this, sunburst bronze, somebody has fitted a kick starter, no kickers from 68 onwards on flh's, plus it's got an s&s carby, minor issues, not gonna stop me from wanting it,

ok, here's my vivid black 75er with optional liberator fairing,

from the front, she's also got lester mag wheels,

Ring H-D Customer Service in the US. Try 0011 1 414 343 4056. Tell them your frame VIN and LEFT crankcase production number. NB: your frame VIN and engine VIN should match each other. Also, your R-H crankcase production number is probably inside the gear compartment and not visible with the engine assembled.

The VIN and crankcase production number may be on file at H-D and if so the factory may send you a letter of confirmation. It's possible you may be told the date of assembly, the colour, whether it had footshift or handshift and maybe even the name of the dealer it was sent to.

Your bike may also have other ID the factory could confirm. Stamped on top of the padlock plate on the lower triple clamp you may find an additional original component identifying number--for example, AB 1234. Similar ID may also be stamped on the front of the gearbox on the R-H side just below where the lid attaches--for example, N 1234.

The two sets of ID numbers probably won't match each other but that's okay because they're not meant to.
