From your head to your toes what are you wearing this summer? I am a couple of weeks away from a new Breakout and new to the warmer weather here in QLD. Half helmets? Armoured hoodies? Summer textiles? Kevlar jeans brands etc. What works for you?

There is no uniform requirements Bruv to ride a Harley so as to fit in with the other kids, use your brain and buy the best protection you can afford. If you like a pink open face just buy it and wear it and stop seeing approval from other people as to what works for you. In order to ride your breakout i am assuming you have previously ridden before so have some idea about bike protection

    Interesting you said sunscreen Keith.
I usually hate the stuff but can see the merits of avoiding melanomas.
Recently found this product and it is the best I've used. It does not feel like you have smeared yourself with lard or KFC chips, axle grease etc.

As for other wearables. I will always wear gloves as your hands are what you naturally put in front of you when sailing through the air after departing your bike to try and stop your head smacking on the ground (but I know folk who hate em). Trousers and footwear of some sort makes sense too.
    Everything else is optional.
End of the day you only have yourself to review after a lengthy slide along the bitumen.

Thanks for the reply Man. I'm not after anyone's approval. More so their recommendations. I haven't ridden for over 20 years and technology in riding gear has changed a bit since then. Just seeing what others feel comfortable in and also protected.
I bought some 2nd hand/new boots on the way home and dropped into AMX and scored some dririder Jean's, gloves and a summer textile jacket.
What stumped me was helmet choice. I like the feel of a open face helmet but understand the sense of getting a full face. It's that they just feel 'enclosed' lol.

Pretty simple really, a full face will protect the front part of your head, nose ,face, jaw , chin etc but are hotter sitting at lights etc. Open face is cooler but wont help your good looks that much skidding down the road face down. Many opinions as to full face vs open face. If you have a $5 head buy a $5 helmet if you think your heads worth more buy a decent lid in either open or full face

Consider a flip front helmet. Most of the brands have them. Easier to speak to people if you need to without taking the helmet off and people in service stations have said that they feel quite comfortable with that type of helmet.
Make sure you get ear protection. Alpine do a good little set of reusable silicone plugs in a carry case (can still speak and listen to music / telephone) for about 26 bucks.
For winter sometimes a lightweight neck gator keeps the breeze out. A lightweight motorcross style kidney belt will give you some support and back protection as you develop your riding position and get core strength. It's easy to slouch.
Do the jeans have kevlar protection in the ass, knee area. Worthwhile thinking about. Does the jacket have impact armour in elbows and shoulders? something also to look at. I understand you have boots and gloves covered.

Thanks Steelo for your reply. I hadn't considered ear protection.  Yes the jeans and jacket have what you described.

Not riding at the mo due to a DT issue, with Glide. But is so much fun.

Bruv, the ear protection is mainly for the wind noise, that is what kills ears, not so much the exhaust note.
Sunscreen is a must, think about it - would you stand in the sun unprotected for 8 hours?
Go full-face or flip-front helmet, I've grown out of this looking cool shit in an open face.
A good rule of thumb for helmet, boots, jacket, kevlar gear, armour etc is 'only protect the body parts you need'!
And keep in mind that there are many more distracted drivers out there than 20 years ago wanting to kill you (mobile phones of course).

Yeah, you guys are lucky. Winter seems to last 6 months here if not longer. At least all the tourists have gone then.

Have a look at the Shark evo helmets, it is an open face that converts to a full face. I like it up here as I can have the open face around town and then flip the chin bar ovwr for the Hwy.
Shark also have a Ice jacket, full mesh with armour, on special for 100 bucks at the moment.
I have a synthetic jacket with removable panels for summer.
    Good boots with ankle support.
Kevlar  jeans for long rides and normal ones for around town.
Fingerless gloves, earplugs when required, and sunscreen ??
I moved my bike once in shorts and scuffs, bloody hot pipes and primary cover, never again, can't imagine riding around like that.
Good luck and take it easy after the long lay off.
    Cheers
