And you show a 70k plus A45 AMG when the cheapest A class you can get starts at $38k and thats not a great stretch from things like the new Mazda 3 pricing. In terms of badge snobbery or perception of prestige Mercedes has it all over Jap and Korean brands and realised they were missing sales in the hatch segment, hence the cheap option. They had no ute, missing the biggest sales market segment in Australia so they gave Nissan squillions to devolop the platform and jumped into the ute market place. The only reason you would buy their ute over the same nissan is the badge prestige. Now we have bogan tradies and cashed up drug dealers soiling the showroom floor where once only suits and leather shoes once roamed.....personal opinion

$70k is entry level for a current C class Benz (and the C class was once the entry class Benz in it's own right).  And to be honest I don't think there is that much difference in the look between the top and bottom end A class Benz these days (performance sure but look no - see below for a pic of a current A180 and then compare it to the A45 I linked earlier).  It's still a 'sporty hatch' (no not a performance hatch a 'sporty' one) and way way different in market segment than the original A140 Benz from the 90s.  The original A series WAS something that dragged down the brand, but the current A series... not so IMO.
As to the new Mazda 3 pricing Mazda themselves have said (and motoring writers have mostly agreed) that they've moved the 3 up market, that's reflected in the new pricing and the 3 is now (at least in the upper grades) now an entry level premium product (unlike something like the i30 which remains a main stream hatch).  Even Mazda admit that they're going to shed a lot of sales because of the changes.

And bogan tradies, that's nothing new.  My grand father's first Benz was a 180D back in the day and my father's first Benz was a 280E, both of those guys wore traditional country clothes and worked in trades industries.

Maybe things are different in the big smoke but walk into a country Benz dealer and you've never seen much in the way of suits (except for the staff).

Who cares how much that thing costs.
I don't want one. Too many friggin buttons, a cross between a vespa and a laptop. No way Jose'.

Could be worse, my mum just bought a brand new Merc A class, bought one of the first in the country before anyone had seen em.. bad mistake.
Theres no instruments any more, its basically two big iPads, you can choose how you want the instruments to look, you can change all of the LED colours through out the car, you can have to interior lighting change based on temperature, you have cameras everywhere, you have sensors everywhere, you can yell out 'hey mercedes, open the sunroof' and it does, it has so much technology.
everything is touch screen, theres buttons, scroll wheels and joysticks everywhere, the computer is menu after menu after menu. its fuckin horrible.

The touch screen and graphics is one of the BEST features of the new Benzes in my opinion!

Yes, bring back the EH Holden dash - a very wide, clear easy to read speedo! A petrol gauge & a couple of idiot lights - what more do you really need? (Dashboard ashtray & cigarette lighter).

That is a problem (if it is a problem) for the second (out of warranty) owner not the original buyer... so... *don't care*.

Interesting, I’ve heard this from Benz owners. Evidently they don’t keep their Benzes beyond the warrantee period because far too frequently they do stuff up.
    Much like Range Rovers.

An ejector seat for the passenger is the only other thing I could think of.

Keeps giving - new industry cost estimate is now in the mid $40ks.

This is fanciful stuff, if the current specs remain as at the release date. This bike needs to do 300+ kms and be a whisker under $30k out the door if it wants to have any meaningful chance of success.

Just a bloody rort. Toyota can make a hybrid Camry or Corrolla cheaper than that. At least they wouldn't run out of electrons like the carnts have with 2019 slave cylinder seals...
