Finding a home for these for an old friend who is in ill health and moving house as a result. From a 5 bedroom house to a 2 bedroom ( swanky!) apartment.
No room for all his years of gathered chit so I have been tasked with the removal and sale.
Now I have asked in the Dyna section if anyone can identify to a model year these "New Bike Take-off" tank and fenders.
I'm calling '96 to '98 , ie from a 1340 ( but I could be wrong). The owner tells me it was a carby bike for sure
I'm also calling Chrome Yellow and Black Cherry Pearl , 'coz that's the kinda names they used AND it says so in various paint manufacturers websites !
He fitted a factory custom set from day 1.
$800 "CASH AND CARRY". In WA would be easiest of course , but I could find out about post east.
I have asked on forums around the globe on these tins , consensus is 1998 FXDWG Wide Glide (will fit '96 to '98 and possibly earlier as well )
They have been bubble wrapped and kept indoors for 20 years. Original bike was sold 17 years ago !
If they are of interest or use to you Evo mate then PM me on the site.
My old mate is more concerned that they "go to a good home" and/or someone who will use them
have already had the Gumtree offers I'm going to "paint it black"...
Now I have the parts at my place , they are very good but not 100 %.
20+ years of lying around (albeit wrapped !) , there is a smooth ding in the front fender where a grandkids bike fell on it apparently.
I personally think paintless dent removal will see that OK as it is quite accessible unlike a petrol tank.
OR the "genuine chrome front fork brace" will 100% cover this smooth shallow ding.
Absolute micro ( MINISCULE !) dimple in the tank down the front facing portion. Teeny chip in the rear fender. Need a Maggy glass to see it !
I know that SOUNDS PICKY but he also had a 2002 to 2007 V Rod custom paint set that I am about to list on the forum that is 100% perfect as it was boxed since 2006 !
just been confirmed out of Canada , this was a "Factory Custom Color" way back then and may not appear in color charts of the period.
I have been sent several links from the US .One to a site where the ask for DENTED a tank in this colour alone is $474.95 USD !
This has cleaned up lovely and I have had 2 guys picking up other stuff from this "collection" say WOW when they saw it !
$800 WOULD OWN THIS , IT IS INDEED WELL LOVELY.
And to repeat myself this is too good to paint !
Just had more info out of Canada on this paint set , will fit 1993 to 1998.
Would also fit other than FXDWG if a "Wide Glide" front fork set is fitted ( and many did so on FXD's etc etc !)
Yes it's a "love it or hate it" scenario for sure.
I have lost count of the number of requests I have had to buy it for SFA "as I am going to paint it black anyways..."
Seriously WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT ?
It is actually Pearl yellow and Pearl Maroon , not brown , thought I better clarify that
Bumping this paint set by default.
Had a guy keen to put it on his 1997 FXDL Lowrider. No worries you would say.
Trouble is , it is as part of an insurance repair and the job is being done by a Perth Indy shop.
Then it starts to get too hard basket , they have to move the ignition up to the tank as well as the speedo etc etc etc....
SO it falls thru' today , and my memory is jogged to bump them here.
Sorry mate , 3 weeks ago the tin set found the "correct home". A one owner from new (but well scruffy) 2000 Wide Glide. From country WA.
He brought his pinholed/rusted OEM tank to my house to ensure same frame lugs/fuel hoses etc etc and it was 100% matchup.
Price was $800 , and now the guy has a "new" bike to the eye.
I said to him " are you going to paint it ?" ( his bike was blue/silver 2 tone from new) , and he said "mate I am going to polish it".
I knew there was a "correct home" for it , and things came to pass.
