2011 softail LED headlight issue

Hi all, I have a technically question which I hope someone here can help me with. I have searched high and low for an answer online, but cant find one. And cant find many people with this problem.
I will try to explain my problem as clearly as I can...

I purchased a Wisamic LED headlight for my 2011 softail standard. 35w low beam, 50w high beam. With the LED installed I turn the bike on and the red security light on the speedometer stays on permanently. Im sure this is a warning lamp to say one of my globes has blown. Because the LED only draws a low 35w, the computer thinks the headlight has blown. However, when I turn my ignition on and quickly flick the LED to Hi-beam (increasing wattage to stock headlight), the security light doesn’t come on. But as soon as I flick it to low beam it does come on.

I looked up the Harley fault code for this red warning light on my bike and it is B2113 (accessory output shorted low). Thinking I need a resistor to increase circuit wattage, I did some research and bought a Canbus H4 LED conversion cable.

I finally received the Canbus H4 led conversion cable and after installing it hasn’t solved my problem with my warning light on dash. I’m thinking there is something wrong with the supplied LED light itself and that it is faulty. When I reinstall my original OEM headlight back on the bike the warning light goes away.

I have tested many things on my bike, and it seems the LED lamp is the only thing which creates a problem. Have I overlooked something here? I want to exchange my LED headlight for a new item, but I don’t want to go through this process only to find I still have this red warning lamp issue with the replacement LED headlight.

1: should I put my own resistor inline rather than using the Canbus one?
2: should I exchange my LED headlamp for another one?
3: Should I just forget using an LED and just upgrade to a better halogen globe?

    Your opinion is much appreciated.

     Thanks Tim

Hi Tim. I think this one's been asked and answered a couple times. Hopefully someone will chime in soon with a solution for you.

I have a 2011 FXST, i originally changed to a genuine HD led headlight replacement.  I did not like it as low turned off once high beam put on.
So i bought a HOG light replacement led.
Both these are plug n play. No trouble with any warning lights on dash coming on.  Maybe there is something else you have done to upset it. Or maybe the led headlight you put in, had something wrong with it. And now need dealer to clear codes. The HOG light mob are in Brisbane area, and the Low beam stays on when high beam activated, giving more light directly in fro t of you plus out in front.

How about option 4? Don't let the dash light bother you?
Have a look at Yankee forums and your issue is not uncommon but may be potentially tricky to fix on a canbus system bike which your bike is.

Thanks for your replies.  I really wish I could just live with the red warning lamp but I can’t.
I returned the Wisamic and will buy another brand LED, if it persists with the new LED I’ll hard wire in a resistor.  I’ll keep you posted on how it turns out.

Might need to call into dealer to have them clear the faults. This should get rid of red light. Do this before fitting another led headlight

Just an update. I swapped my Wisamic headlight for a Sunpie LED from the supplier. Only because I thought the Wisamic LED may be defective. The Sunpie also caused the red fault light to appear.
I then purchased a 50w 6ohm resistor and soldered it between the yellow and black wire on the headlight plug and this finally solved my problem. Light works great with no error codes. The resistor is small enough to fit in the headlight housing. The resistor generates a lot of heat and my headlight housing gets very hot, so I’m going to have to reinstall it on the outside of the housing so it can cool off in the breeze.
I hope this info helps someone, as after much searching I could never find the exact answer.
    Cheers
    Tim

Sheesh man. Am not an auto elect"s arseole.
So I do take heed of your post and thankyou. Myself , I obtained a Chinese copy of brightening the life on bike at night, but, the low beam is fucken shite. High beam good.
Me, being a no money man, went cheap, so, may follow your lead if checks cool and bright..

I got my Sunpie off Amazon Australia for $58 delivered and it is very bright on low beam and high, and no other buyers have had the issues I did with error light on speedo

Ok, I concede defeat.  My headlight stopped working after 30 mins riding so I cut out the resistor out and now the headlight works again.  Please don’t follow my above tips!!!  I might stick to being a mechanical fitter.  My work colleague has constantly said “just take it to an auto electrician or the dealer”.  I think he was right.  I do like to tinker though ;)

Aye TMan. It just goes to show people, do not get sucked into Harley Davidson shite, as copies are there, that may not align with identical HD shite, but function the same ..

I bought Hoglights for my headlight and side lights. Goes straight in no issues and bright as. Australian made. When I go riding with the fellas, one of the blokes has a chinese led headlight. When leading and looking back, the chinese led isn't as bright as the blokes with standard headlights.
