Hey fellas...Looking at a 2008 Road King and was wondering if anyone has ridden one with this frame and also ridden one with the upgraded frame..Is there a great difference in handling and if there is what can be done with the older frame to improve things...I don't ride really aggressively but like to give them a fist full from time to time..
    Cheers...

The old tourer frame is a shocker! The frames were changed in 2009 and there is no comparison . There are several very good aftermarket stabilisers to help things but just look at a updated frame version. This video is the frame on the bike your looking at,and was removed from service as a result of these tests by the USA police

Thanks PB...The price is right but I think I will give it a miss after watching that...Does this happen in all the earlier models or just a select few?

Not really sure except to say that the touring frame was the same for all the touring range at the time so i would say it would be the same for all. I have ridden a few old frames and one with the stabiliser  and that was miles better.

Sure does bring back memories - I also had Fournales but also added a True Track (one of the stabilisers referenced by PB earlier) http://www.true-track.com/
The combination of both of them certainly made a difference.

Sparra - it was all of the earlier touring range. If the price of the bike is right, the addition of a good set of shocks (which you will probably need on a 2009 plus model anyway - at some stage) and a good stabiliser will make all the difference.

stabiliser bar thats stops forward to rear movement on rubber mounts will fix it. they only show up when you ride real hard like the cop is in video.
if you ever break a rear rubber engine mount and ride over 160kph you will know all about it no matter what year!!
I was doing 180kph at the track, frightened me big time!! I tried giving it more throttle and it got worse , then used rear brake kept throttle open that helped, lucky was at the track with a lot of room & no cars & plenty of distance to stop. you might not even know your rear mount gone with normal riding, so have them checked out!! if old replace.

Copper ridding it hard? Did not see anything that gave me that impression and it was a smooth bump free surface

I own an 08 FLHT, same thing as a road King and I gotta say that while my bike is no R1 yammie or such, that video is crap.
The speed that rider was travelling with the wobbles he was experiencing is not right.
There must be 10 psi in those tyres or the rider is a knob end on a motorcycle or his suspension has a major problem.

What I can relate to actually a couple of motorcycles had, Yamaha XS1 Yamaha XS2, now, they were wobblers at speed..... HD as we now know can be fixed with dollars from killing bike and rider.....2008 Road King I would love, but just homework, setup, experiment and action...If price cool, go with it.

So your really suggesting that the Police instructor  fabricated that video or put them selves at risk by lowering the tyre pressure? As for the rider being a "knob"...what evidence can you see in that video gave you that impression, or is simply your personal view? The CHP has approximately 415 enforcement motorcycles working the roads throughout California and around 50% of those have over 200, 000klm each on them so these guys do some riding during their shifts. Just have a little look at a "knob" ridding in the video

Totally agree mate.  What are you saying Pauly? Is that how theyre supposed to handle?
I think in the next video he blew up his tyres to a more appropriate pressure. Or tightened up the steering head bearing. Or a multitude of other things.
Or it was a different knob end on a different bike.
Watch out for the knobs!  They are everywhere

What I am saying is that there is no way my bike carries on like that bike does . Do you really think he's cranking that thing into those bends at the ton?
But anyway, no not taking the piss.
And yeah, I've seen that second video before, awesome riding skills.

So does it look like he is doing 160kph....? HD tourers had a problem with their early frames hence the updated frame for the tourers, its not any huge secret
