Pie in the Sky on the ol' Pacific Hwy north of sydney make their own and they are really good.  Note however that I tried the Lamb, Honey and Mint Pie yesterday - interesting but wouldn't have that one again, i'll stick to regular pies.
PS: shame they don't make decent pasties here in NSW, bloody convicts!

Toby I been to Pie in the sky many times. alway's a pie they make you can like & one you might not like.
Hayden's Pie's @ Ulladulla have a very big selection , & constantly changing what one's they cool week to week & all baked in house. Same as East Lynne store they make there own pie's.
I like there tiger prawn & seafood pie when they bake that one & the roast chicken & roast potato pie to name a few. ( these are at Hayden's pie's )

East Lynne have a good chunky beef & pepper pie.

the guy that owns it was from over by Port Pirie, he gets a Gibbs and an farmers Union first thing when he comes home

the pies are most ground beef/lamb/pork, must be an American thing,

You are right in saying they don't know much about pies, enforced more if they like these pies

My Favourite Pies are from the Jitter Bean Oasis Cafe in Lochiel SA, 115 kays north of Adelaide on the Princess Hwy, I pass through once a week, here's a pic of a Chicken Satay Pie I had on Thursday, generally I have either Steak and Mushroom or Pepper Steak, but they were sold out, Both the Pastry and Filling are delicious doesn't matter which Pie, always Chunky, these are the Pies I judge all Pies by now, now I find there's nothing worse than getting a pie made using Mince as the Filling,

Called into the Country Bakery at Loxton SA today, Pepper Steak pie was bloody marvellous, plenty of peppery heat, and a proper baked custard tart, if you gunna have a tart she’s gotta be properly naked, oops baked.

Sounds good @ $5.50, Only cheap in house baked pie's I've seen were Viet  (asian? ) bakery in Sydney $2.50 but basic minced pork I think?.
Hayden's pies more pricy but a top pie!! think around the $7 mark but different pies different prices ( ingredients  )
