Going to Lakes Entrance Vic

Not too sure if this is the correct area to post this, my apologies if not.

I have a week or so off work after Easter and was thinking of coming over from Adelaide and visiting the Lakes Entrance area. Have not been to this area since the mid 80s so have some vague memories of the place. Was wondering if anyone here has any recommendations of things to see and do while in the area. I am pretty much open to doing anything (no not that you sexual deviants) but have a leaning towards more outdoor pursuits (hiking, fishing, nice twisty roads to go for a ride on) rather than museums etc.

A quick look at the map and it seems that a detour via Omeo and Hotham on the way home would not be out of the question either. Do seem to remember doing the Great Alpine road back then on a mates 900ss Ducati. Will be on an Ultra Limited this time and also a bit older and wiser so do not expect to be travelling as fast.

The wife has to work so will be going on my own. I am planning on travelling light and stopping in pubs and motels as I find them. Any recommendations on good biker friendly accommodation around here?

    Thanks for any information.

    Wade

Lakes Entrance RSL Motel isn't too bad, you must ask for a downstairs room you can park your bike in front of.

Only ever gone through lakes on my way up to Sydney, that ride from lakes to Eden and onwards is fckn spectacular, feels like it’s 500ks of twisty roads.
And heavily patrolled as I found out :D

Thanks Mr Mow. Had a look at the map and it certainly looks likes a good ride. Unfortunately just a bit too far out of my way for the time I have.

    Cheers

There is an amazing underground series of caverns near lake Entrance with massive crystal formations and guided tours that would be well worth a stop over.

Thanks Rodders, very good idea. Didn't even give this a thought. Was more concerned with getting there quick. Will be changing my plans.

    Cheers,

    Wade

    Ferry ride is good.
They usher the bikes up to the front.
Tip 1: Leave your bike in 1st gear to make sure it can’t roll. Just don’t forget before firing it up.
    Tip 2: Get coffee elsewhere.

And skip Sorrento, keep going and head up to either Mornington (that’s where I am) or head up into the hills for a whole bunch of good breweries, American bbq and wineries.

    Thanks guys for the info.

HOG63 good tip about the Ferry. Will have a coffee before I get on.

Mr Mow, BBQ and Brewery are my two favourite words in the English language. That is after "OK then, but make it quick." Do you mean the Cockatoo mountains? Seems to me that looking at a map everywhere East of Melbourne is some sort of mountain.

Up in Red Hill is the red hill brewery, bovine and swine are set up with them. Theres also the red hill bbq. Here in Mornington we have the (surprisingly named) Mornington brewery which also does wood fired pizza.
Red hill is not far from Sorrento.

Wade: Mallacoota is beautiful and has an epic pub for a day ride from Lakes entrance. 2 1/4hrs each way.

Thanks Nutty, had a look at the map and certainly looks like a windy ride. May have to extend the trip a few days to take in though. May have to take a fortnight off...

Once you of the boat at Sorrento, get on to Melbourne rd , then Browns rd , turn right at Borneo rd and head over to flinders, then Hastings , pearsdale , tooradin , south Gippsland h/way to sale. That’s a great ride missing all the traffic
