Washing and Drying your Bike

There have been a few threads on bike washing several years ago, can't find anything recent so wanted to get some opinions and ideas for this day and age.
I'll start with I'm generally a lazy count (without the "O"), so the least effort for the best result is my go. I've got away with washing my bike once in 4 months, I used HD sun wash, micro-fibre wash mitt and cranked up the 18V Bosch blower to dry it, followed by a few detailing wipes. I was happy with the result. The dealership washed it for me at the 1st service using a hot wash pressure cleaner and "snow foam" as detergent. Then dryed it with a run of the mill pet dryer with a low heat setting and it come up a treat.
    What is your washing/drying regime?
What are you guys using as detergent and also to dry it?
Is there a decent pressure washer brand and model that you would recommend?
If you use a dryer what brand and model do you use?

    Thanks in advance

Any old auto soap and any old sponge ....Sometimes use compressor to dry it off.
As my bike is black denim I use window cleaner to wipe over the tank and guards and I use Mr Sheen on any thing else.

Wash , then blow off with compressor , then wipe off , then take it for a ride & another wipe off.

Pressure cleaners are capable of blowing the coating off fins and engine cases and pushing water where it’s not wanted. Wouldn’t let one near my bike.
Blow drying ok but again wouldn’t get too close even they can push water into wheel bearings.

for a start a quick spray on the bugs with bugger off,a lot of people dont like ct 18 ,but thats what i use with a spot sprayer, let soak/dry,then normal car wash, good rinse [ no hi pressure cleaner here as well, although i have one its for the 4wd's]. drip dry for a few minutes.then shammy and micro fibre clothes.now and again i use turtle wax "wax and dry",comes up well with this. i try and avoid washing in hot sun. imho, pressure washers have a place but it's not around black finish engines, wheel bearings, cables or instrument clusters.the ct 18 does a good job on brake dust and hard to reach areas.this all might seem a bit over the top,but it doesnt take long.

Soak overnight with CT18 then hit it with the pressure washer and chamois, comes up like new and never fucked anything on the
CVO and it has a lot of things that can be fucked up.

I hose the bike down a with gentle  spray setting and garden hose. Wash with a wax free car wash, sponge and two buckets, one with the suds the other the rinse water. Do tank and paint first, then progressively dirtier bits with wheels last, hose rinsing as I go, then a good wash off when done.
    Dry with chamois.
    Then polish and wax coat.
I do the alloy and chrome work alternative washes, so only half the polishing each time. I found if I do it regularly it is very easy and quick, the first time took a lot of time and effort because it was pretty bad. Yet to try the Mr Sheen, but sound like a good idea especially on the rocker box covers.
It usually takes me around an hour all up if I am not too OCD.

Great tips guys, I really appreciate it.
    Now onto the polish.......

I've got a splash mark on my front rim, looks like someone "batted one off" on the rim! Can't figure for the life of me where da fuk i picked that up. After a few people mentioning "Purple" on this forum I brought a bottle. Gave it a go yesterday, it helped get rid of most of it, but you can still see it.
What do you guys use and recommend?

    Looking good @mickle
Going to give this "SnowFoam" a shot, thx @Soapbox2627
If no go I'll give Bowdens a crack, thx @Hot and Heavy

I may be a little OCD but then again my 09 Sporty still looks better than it would have on the Dealership floor and that's with 100K under the belt.

Search for the term "Scholl" and you will come across a couple of threads where I have put down a detailed process for washing and paint correcting in a thread called "my polishing tips'.

No pressure washer used normally, but ANY pressure washer will do the trick, just remember to not point it at the wheel bearings.

SOAPs are critical so get a good one!

My goto dryer is now a mains powered leaf blower I got cheap on Gumtree (I also have a battery one but its only 1/2 the power of the mains one and its noticible)

Its not rocket science, but its definitely a case of you get out of it what you put into it.

I've always used Mothers metal polish with good results and would still recommend it.
I tried some of the California Purple after reading it on here and to be honest wasn't really that impressed with it. I also gave the Bowden's metal polish a crack recently just to try it and it's fucking awesome, especially on bare alloy or chrome.

The water marks like you're talking about are really hard to get rid of though, I have some on my V-Rod wheels from before I bought it and I haven't had the patience to get rid of them completely. The Bowden's or Mothers has given the best account, but they still need more work when I can be arsed.

These are tussuck's tips above (hope he doesn't mind) from a different thread he mentioned earlier. Great info, this is right up my alley, spend the time to get it right and follow up with a little maintenance down the track.
Would any guys in Melbourne be interested in doing the Waxit $100 detailing workshop on a Saturday morning, next one is 13th April? Maybe go for a rip in the afternoon....

All bowdens products. Bugger off soak to most of anything facing forward. Wheely clean around front wheel fork and calipers. Snow blow after and gentle pressure clean after with compressor and dry with bowdens big green cloth to finish. I try not to wash by hand with sponges nor chamois as they produce swirl marks and paint damage....

Try to avoid abrasive polishes on chrome. After washing, I use Mr Sheen on the chrome.
