Not ready to give up riding OLD Carnt

My 2012 Road king has been my life ,one owner since new so many dollars spent, previous bike was street bob, & fkn luved that too but am 61 this year & findin it hard to move it around, am thinking bout sumfin lighter,. love the dynas but never riden a softail is there much difference to say a softail slim or deluxe,(comfort wise) I m sure its lighter was thinkin bout 17 wide glide even, last dyna I think just puttin it out there any way opinions are individual I know

Gidgi not that far off it myself and still wheel my Street Glide around , if it falls over i thankfully will still be able to lift it , hang in there mate as you will regret it if you sell her

giggi I went from an 06 wideglide to a 16 slim s, wouldn't go back, loved the Dyna but the softy in this configuration is just so much easier to manoeuvre, lower seat height, rode a new Softail heritage the other day, it was pretty good, my favourite of the new ones so far, still wouldn't trade my slim though.

Hey Gidgi, when you say “moving it around” are you talking about riding or in the shed?
In the shed, sure a wideglide is friendliest but your Roadie’s gunna move around a lot better on the road.
I loved my wideglide but that skinny front wheel got me into trouble on a few occasions and my ageing reactions were tested.
I changed to a Fatbob, not so scary.

Sporty 1200 is what you want! Light as and faster than the big block bikes and way more fun to ride.

A couple of good points made there guys Roadking is a great handling bike sure but heavy when pushing around the shed or slow putting , didn`t think bout the skinny front wheel thing ratbob I sort of see what ya sayin cant help thinkin I will be going backwards after a Roady. sorry Tussuck I think a sporty will be too far backwards mate I too have been taken buy the new Heritage Grease Monkey the 114 I think going to have to get a test ride me thinks. I`ll keep lookin & keep ya posted ,my last few bikes have just stood out & I knew that was the one see what happens cheers

Gigi , think what you want. but your still a young bloke!
I've had a few Harley over the years all from new, both rigid mount motor & one rubber mount motor. I looked for a rigid mount motor Sporty as could feel how much better rigid mount motor handles, plus the carb bikes much lighter.
well I had my motor totally rebuilt & set up for Torque , had custom set up forks & shocks. it's one of the best Harleys I've had easy to move around, splits lanes in traffic easy. can take it over on the tyre walls in tight twisty's & feel relaxed not trying.
but you get the five minute Harley snobs look down there nose at you. but I'm not riding to show off just riding for my love of riding and I would not feel right on any other brand as I only know Harley's. but I'm not a big guy and have a lot of injuries. but can ride my old sporty anywhere & only stop when I need to turn on reserve ( no warning light has a petcock ) ridden it over 10k since rebuild & love it so smooth smoother than my rubber mount Buell & handles better too. if you want real light Buell's are light but as they are tall harder to move around while you sit on the bike. I can move my sporty around while sitting on it. And it is higher than stock as I like corners and don't want to be scrapping. can also take this to the drags if I want, anyone want to, ride to any drag strip in Australia for a race and then ride home? I'll take you up on that!!!
so as you gather I'm happy with what I've got, I'm 71, and won't be changing bike or riding style for a long time yet!!

sounds like a real pleasure to ride & a credit to ya Hope that I can still get out there in 10 yrs & love it as much as I do now, good yarn mate cheers

Gidgi I dunno what your personal performance wants and needs are but the 114 would need some massaging if I was to get one, the beauty of them is they have great heads stock so a cam, decent exhaust and intake/tb with a good tune and you are there, well for me anyway.
They ride nice though, screen I found a nuisance, off it would come.

Gidgi, people that are younger think it gets harder as you get older. & they tell you. but mate they are younger & don't matter if they are doctors or nurses, they have not got first hand experience.
Just keep on riding as much as you can and it gets easier, but I know it is not easy to always find the time. go with what you feel comfortable with, don't rely of what others say as it you that has to feel in control!! I was talking to a grumpy old man yesterday, but between know it all grumpy comments he was ok. he was loading up a scooter, had seat lifted up & has putting more gear than I've seen anyone fit into HD bags or top box. really impressed me, but most of it was grog ( I am a non drinker, I drink water n coffee or tea LOL ) just mentioned a 93 year old rider I know with a Harley trike, this grumpy scooter rider said " and he uses a back pack!!" I said no! he hand crafted a wooden gear holder that looks like a Sloper Ford ( 1936 vintage ) boot made it like a master craftsman!! while your home on the turps. people that age if they still can don't buy things they hand make them as there generation, had to make everything . this guy with the trike a living legend !! raced speedway sidecars till he was 74, then Raced speedway cars till he was 84, now 93 still riding & he is a good rider!!

Also a lot of you would not know, but Forrest Elbow that is part of the Mount Panorama raceway was named after a famous ( in his day ) Bike racer named Jack Forrest, he was sill riding his old bikes and rideing them fast till very old age.

Bit to young Gidgi to be thinking 'Cue in the rack' or down sizing, old mate Trev put a reverse gear in his to make things a bit easier for parking etc.

Not ready yo give it away Keith, just there was a progression of things going wrong on the bike RE: The noise I posted about in another post so got it checked out by a indie shop in Albion pk,( I wont give their name & told AOK $350 thankyou very much } someone on here was raving bout them on a another post thought give them a try, closest to me than Frasers but less than 1000ks later it was worse so mistrusting of everyone I decided to do it myself, New SE Compensator done then after a few weeks I went back in & put a Haydon tensioner on.. EasyR was out of stock so ordered from USA $75 cheaper I might add, then the oil from the breathers was becoming a pain so I fitted external breathers as posted by Ando a while back, thankfully it all seems to have done the trick & am pleased that I done it myself so may have to invest in a bike skate for in the shed FKN 7 point turns are a bitch ...or a reverse gear like Trev haha

had a Triumph speed master back in 06 Smokey really fun to ride around the burbs but lacking out on country roads didn`t really do it for me , apart from a bigger 1200 engine now I haven`t really seen much progression in style, the bobber is closest but still a bit Plastic y

34K now just had Fueling lifters ,cam chains & tensioner`s done & the dyno tune was tweaked a bit by a local shop in Nowra , conservative 86 /110 Jobson motorsport done a great job & very Happy, again . as far as moving around the shed I bought a 450kg lazy susan & screwed it to a plank works a treat
