probably no different, the rotor contact width is the same and the caliper hasn't changed. there might be a slight improvement in rotor cooling but i doubt it. it just looks cool.

Yes surface area is the same but the increased diameter creates more leverage and therefore increased force; hence better braking power. You can actually feel the difference.
