Think your dealer is struggling with the truth on his reply. Every brand has had to introduce tech to simply remain in the market or to meet safety requirements world over. There is not one revolutionary component on a modern bike where the tech started on bikes and migrated to cars, it’s the other way around and cars are getting very tech savvy and the buyers are lapping it up

A good start would be to scrap the whole married to a bike tuner situation.
Ok to spend 5 Hundy extra to tune the bike when times are good.
But what do dealers / service guys  do when the everyday guy has timing / injection issues.
He thinks twice. Let’s open up the whole aftermarket thing.
Btw. Had a call from a fellow from HD aust enquiring whether I’d received the mail out on the 2019 range.
Being a suspicious type. I didn’t give too much away. Anyone else been getting calls.

A good approach would also be to sell a Harley that you do not have to spend $5k on in aftermarket parts to actually get performance out of it.  I test rode a Road King last year and even though it was a 103ci it was as sad as fuck for power (my 883 sporty has better pickup).  Im not spending $40k on a slow dinosaur

Just bought a new 2018 FLHX with boom upgrade and shock upgrade for $29990 on road. That ain't $40K...
My trade-in was 8 years old, I was given $2K more for my 2011 FLHRC than I paid for it.
The new market is contracting for sure, but the sky isn't falling.
As for being a 'slow dinosaur' it's miles ahead of any stock Twinkie tourer for smoothness, low down torque and economy.
If more of us got out and rode instead of pissing and moaning, maybe more folks would see the fun in riding big-twins and buy more of the bastards. :-)
