g,day all .. converted from fjr forum to hd .. so i have a lot of question as im a complete novice as far as harleys go ... anyway i recent purchased an new sport glide which i love riding around at a snail pace : ) .. originally bought the bike for both the wife and i but after a few short trips she would like something bigger ( no smarts comments ) , so i hummed and harred and after a bit of consideration i have just also bought a 2014 ultra limited  .. and thats when the trouble started !!!!

g,day ratbob  and thanks for the welcome : ) . ... yeh well ive been sitting here most of the nite on youtube googling ultra limited related stuff and it appears i may not have as many issues as i thought  , or at least not as much to worry about !!

after riding the ultra home i thought wtf have i just bought and had that real bad feeling that i had just waisted a bucket load of money .. however it appears that may not be the case ( or at least hopefully ) ... bike at idle was vibrating like mad .. also on slowing down through the gears it felt really harsh through the motor .. since buying the bike i have discovered its been cammed  so that ive been told is most likely the reason for that ... i originally though i was buying an almost stock bike but it appears not ...... as i said i know very little to nothing about harleys so pretty hard for me to know whats what ... anyway after having someone take a bit of a look over it for me
its been cammed , screamin eagle heavy breather air filter , vance/hines pipes .. screamin eagle tuner , adjustable air shocks , he said most likey stage 2 ..possibly even 3.

ANYHOW !!! .. so didnt feel quite so bad , but it is chewing through the fuel a lot , and sitting in neutral after warming up she tend to rattle a bit from the primary .. so after youtubing a bit im thinking its the compensator , ... also getting a lot of vibration through the back seat which wife is not liking  but again that could be due to it being cammed , or so im told .. its booked in for a dyno next week so im hoping that will sort out the fuel issue or at least reduce it as iim thinking its probably tuned for performance rather than economy.
as for the SPORT GLIDE .. im loving that except for the fact ive had bassani pipe installed and its scaping like shit on the right handers which is quite unsettling ...shame i didnt google them before ibought and had fitted but such is life : /

Jeeze mate, what you’ve written raises more questions than answers, would like to hear back after you’ve had the Dyno done but I’m questioning the need for it.

If someone’s spent the bucks on stage 2 or 3 and supplied a tuner with the bike I imagine it’d already be tuned.

I assume you’ve questioned the previous owner/dealer on the subject?

lol .. trying not to think to much about it for a bit hahaha .. but yeh its been a bit of a worry , guess it always is when u buy second hand and dont know the history .. but what i do know is the guy who had it before me did basically nothing to it apart from a service just before he sold it .. and he only bought it in january .
however  i think the guy previous had it either from new or for quite a while and was the one that had all the work done , also i can say that he had all the servicing done by quite a well known harley mechanic so thats also a plus as far as im concerned.

as far as the tuning goes thats a big question mark as ive been told it depends on how its been tuned.. ie , for performance or economy and so on ... but it seem everywhere i take it they say put it on the dyno .

Yeah I know what you mean.
I fly to Brisbane, test road it for 15 or so minutes, then rode it back to Cairns:)
Unless you are racing I don't think you tune em for economy or performance, you just tune em, some tunes and tuners being a bit more conservative than others. Set the AFR's so it doesn't run too lean or too rich, get the VE tables set and maybe some timing adjustments.
That is the advantage of a dyno, you can see what you want vs what you are really getting and make adjustments to get it right, especially in the upper parts of the map.
Simply put adding performance parts like free flowing air cleaner and exhaust with better camshaft profiles just allows the engine to breath better, which means you can inject more fuel, so more power.
I had mine dynoed, but he has locked the map so I cant see what he has done, which I am not happy about. But it runs good, fuel economy went down a bit more as he has obviously added fuel to some parts of the map (it was a little lean in places) but not to much and I also fitted some cams. I used to get 340 odd from a tank (19 litre) and is around 320 now.
Ask questions for sure, but enjoy the new ride mate.

The twin cam a engine is gonna vibrate a bit but should be smooth once it gets moving.  It shouldn't stumble down low unless there's a problem which could be caused by several things. I've had a tune that was bad and caused this (too rich in places and wrong cam settings used on TTS tuner). Bike rode worse than the self tune I'd done so I took it back and insisted it be redone. Having the wrong cam fitted (ie too big a cam, too much overlap) can also do this. Like I said there are other causes too. A rich tune would be consistent with your bike stumbling and being thirsty for fuel.

If you're unhappy you could take it somewhere reputable to get it checked out.  Some of the members here from Perth will know where to go. Thundertech seems to be well regarded. Or you could ask on the wa section of the forum. It might be worthwhile for now and save a few $ if you inquire thru previous owners what work was done to the bike and by who. If they don't know or won't help, and you know where the bike was located by previous owner's, ring around to shops in those areas and ask because most will keep records on the computer and can search via plate, owner name and sometimes vin. When I've done this before I've received help.

Good luck working it out. You'll get there and be happy I'm sure. I like twin cams and a 2014 ultra is a good bike after you sort this out.

    Hi wello, & Welcome m8.
sorry to hear about your worries. I think we all worry more about the un known.
well here is my take, you can fit cam's fit pipes fit a tuner, have a well known Harley work shop , do the work. but if the combination Heads , cam, Pipes. don't work well together. It can be very time consuming tuning it. Some pipes or pipe & intake combination's, can be hard to fine tune. so ask your tuner when you take it to dyno, like ask what he thinks of the pipe & intake & cam combination first up, & listen to his suggestion as might be better to change pipe or cam or whatever to make the bike a pleasure to ride. and when the new 4 valve m8 tuned they are a nice motor in a bagger as the best Torque curve I've seen in a stock HD off showroom floor. Or is this a Twin Cam?

omfg what a bellend !!!! .. so im taking the bike all over the place going on about how much fuel its using and how i can smell fuel blah blah .. and after listening to several peoples take on what the problem may be i finally get her home and go find a torch to see if i can see and drips or evidence of any leaks .. NOPE  cant see shit ! .. not even a damp patch , NOTHING !!! .. but i can still smell fuel A LOT .. so im laying on the floor contemplating pulling everything off the bike , i go to stand up and i get a deeeeep whiff of it again right at tank level so i start sniffing around the tank ...AND THEN IT HITS ME !!! .. what a dick head lololol ... i open up the locked fuel flap and hey presto i suddenly remember that i left the plastic fuel cap on top of the servo fuel pump 2 days ago !!!!!
im not so sure thats the cause of the excessive fuel consumption as no idea what the evaperation rate would be ... but at least its stopped me thinking the bikes about to burst into flames hahahahaha ... DEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRR !!!!!
